Beta Release of a new VCS game

Recommended Posts

I have just put up a page about a 2600 game I have been working on, Warring Worms. I am releasing it in a mostly complete state. There a still lots of things left to be done, but I wanted to get other's opinions on it. Let me know what you think.

Congratulations! Looks like a very nice new game.

BTW: Where did you get all the necessary informations? I haven't seen you on the stella mailing list. You should join us, and you'll get plenty of help, when you need it.

Thanks for taking a peek at it. From the looks of the hit counter at my homepage a few others did too.

Addressing the replies:

I guess I didn't try this latest version on the z26, it certainly does shake like the vertical blank is taking too long when you press down. But it works fine on the Win version of Stella and the SuperCharger. (bug report needed?)

Warrior Worms is a good name, I will think about it, informal poll at work is evenly divided.

Most of the info I got was just from trolling web sites, reading the 6502 spec and the Stella programming guide and judicious borrowing/modification of what's out there in source form. What is the Stella mailing list address?

Thanks Again. (boy, the Graemlins are fun to play with...)

I haven't even played the new game yet, but I already know it's going to be fantastic. Tron is one of the best video games out there, as well as all of the variations. The obstacles were left out in a lot of variations, but I think this version will fix all of that. If you are going to make Warring Worms a SuperCharger only game, will you release the games on tapes or CDs? Or will they come out in cartridge format?

I hope the game lives up to your expectations.

At this point my plan is to release in cartridge form at some point (a month or two or so...) Though I suppose I could release it as supercharger tape with extended features taking advantage of the tons of RAM. Good suggestion.

Also, right now the various starting playfields are fairly random, with only a couple I really like. If after playing it anyone has a suggestion of a good layout for a playfield, sketch it out and send it to me.

Also, been working on the AI for one-player mode, probably have another beta release next week sometime.
