Csonicgo #1 Posted July 26, 2004 If you play your Gba sp, you notice those SHoulder buttons stick out quite far, correct? Did you know that, after 10 months, the Shoulder buttons can stop working altogether? Happened to me. the L and R do not work anymore. I have to mash them down hard to get them to work. it's frustrating. anyone know what I can do? has this happened to others besides me? I need to know my options before I start calling nintendo. hex65000 #2 Posted July 26, 2004 No I didn't. I'll tell my friend to try and be ginger with his SP buttons. I'm one of those oddballs who did the afterburner kit, bought a set of NiMH batteries, and a charger. I still wish you could get those kits inexpensively. Hex. Mr.FoodMonster #3 Posted July 26, 2004 Its probably because you didnt take good enough care of the SP itself, letting it bang around and hitting the sholder buttons all the time. I know someone that has had an SP from a week after they came out in Japan, and its still in perfect working order. I have also never heard anyone ever complain about them. If there is one thing I can trust with Nintendo, is that their hardware is built like a bomb shelter.
pmpddytim #4 Posted July 26, 2004 I play mine everyday and havent had a prob with it yet. My fiances is still in perfect working order as well. Somtimes a bad part just gets into a machine. If its still under waranty I'm sure they'll fix it as long as its a defective part and not some sort of odd abuse on your part. -Tim
Csonicgo #5 Posted July 26, 2004 it as happened on two gba sp's. mine, and... mine. so it's probably me. but I haven't done anything to it....
jetset #6 Posted July 26, 2004 it as happened on two gba sp's. mine, and... mine. so it's probably me. but I haven't done anything to it.... And that's probably true, you can baby the shit out of something and it still break....whereas my kids have each had one about a year now. The first 5-6 times they DROPPED thiers, I cringed knowing it was a goner, but they drop them, they've spilled coke on them, left them out in the sun for hours, and still work perfectly. Last I remember, Nintendo is pretty cool customer service wise (that is my SNES years ago had a problem, out of warranty and they fixed it for free all I paid was shipping). If it were Sony or Microsoft I would say don't bother wasting your breath. Give Nintendo a call, you never know......
Mr Egg #7 Posted July 26, 2004 the original gba was a more robust and comfortable design IMHO . if only it would had had sideligthing, installing afterburners was a pain

vb_master #10 Posted July 27, 2004 Nothing has happened to my relese bought silver SP yet. Hasn't even got a scratch! Perhaps that's because of the Windows SP cover I have .
+Random Terrain #11 Posted July 27, 2004 If you can't get it fixed make sure you don't throw it away. It makes a great emergency light.
hex65000 #12 Posted July 27, 2004 That is true. You can knock Nintendo for all sorts of things, but their hardware is pretty well built. The more I think about it, it is curious about how he's having problems with those shoulder buttons. My experience with their customer service was also quite good. They shorted me a spare part that I had ordered and I called and got the part 2nd day shipped with no hemming and hawing. Very impressive. Hex. [ will spare the current gen system analysis since I've done it before... ]
Mr Egg #13 Posted July 28, 2004 i found the shoulder buttons prone to cathing dirt and pushing it inside . that could cause the problem? i also found the flip screen a bit floppy. i also hated playing regular game boy games because they stick out too far in front . at least on the original gba they stuck out of the way to the rear maybe the DS will be better
