AlexKIDD #1 Posted July 29, 2004 I am interested in buying the import version of symphony of the night for sega saturn. can someone tell me if it will play on an american saturn or only on a japanese one?
JB #2 Posted July 29, 2004 Saturn is region coded. You need a Japanese saturn, or a modded one.
Tempest #3 Posted July 29, 2004 Actually you can also get one of those all-in-one 4-in-1 RAM carts which also act as a Pro Action Replay and Region Code Buster. I use one on my Saturn and it works great! I highly recommend them. Tempest
Godzilla #4 Posted July 30, 2004 yup, they do work great. even the ol bog standard game sharks will work too, it doesnt have to be a fancy 4m all in one thingy. There is also a swap method for the saturn that requires nothing more than the patience to learn the technique and nimble fingers. Try googling for it, I don't remember it myself as I got a mod chip for my saturn ages ago and never had to worry about alternative methods :-) I do know the swop method works, as friends of mine have used it successfully. Lost Monkey #5 Posted July 30, 2004 . There is also a swap method for the saturn that requires nothing more than the patience to learn the technique and nimble fingers. FYI (to the OP). the swap method is for bootleg discs only, it will not bypass the region coding on the discs.
Lost Monkey #6 Posted July 30, 2004 How to swap… First put the backup into the Saturn and turn on the power. Leave the door open. The system will attempt to verify the disk and will eventually stop at the CD player screen. This will take about 30 seconds to a minute, depending on the disk. Once the disk has stopped, remove it from the spindle and place an original disk on the spindle. Make sure the sound volume is turned down so that you can hear the laser assembly motor. Hit the reset button on the Saturn and the disk will begin to spin. The laser will [1] move to the outside of the disk (this will be the first thing you hear), [2] read the security code on the edge of the disk (you will also hear this), and then [3] move back to the inside of the disk (this will sound like the first noise.). When you hear the third noise, wait at least 1 second and then swap the disk. If the swap is performed correctly you will see the normal “Produced by or under license from Sega” screen, and the game will load. If not, turn the Saturn off and start over. Good luck! video game addict #7 Posted July 30, 2004 Too much work. Just buy one of them 4 in 1 deals and be done with it.
Mendon #8 Posted July 30, 2004 If you are looking for a cheap way to play import games and can make your saves to the internal memory then try the ST Key. Only $10 and works well. I've dealt with National Console Support on many occasions and always found them courteous, quick to ship, and very fair on pricing. Mendon
RMila75 #9 Posted July 30, 2004 I have the 4 in 1 and the ST key. Both work perfectly.

Mendon Even though this might not apply to the Castlevania Saturn game specifically...if you're going to fork out money on a cart that lets you play imports, spend a little extra and go with the Action Replay Plus over the ST Key. It'll let you play the imports that require the 1MB/4MB RAM carts like X-Men vs SF, Vampire Savior, etc. It also doubles as a memory cart and GameShark. MegaManFan #11 Posted August 1, 2004 So what's a good reliable website to get the Action Replay Plus from?
Mendon #12 Posted August 2, 2004 MMF..... National Console Support says they have them in stock for $29.00 plus around $7 shipping UPS ground. Be aware that it doesn't play KOF95 as that game used a proprietary RAM card but just about every other import game plays with the ARP. You can view the ARP H E R E Driftchamp... I agree 100%. For $19 extra for the ARP you get both the 1meg & 4meg RAM's plus a save card plus cheat codes. A much better deal IMO. But if you are counting pennies and just want to play a few import games then the ST Key is a good alternative. Mendon
Tempest #13 Posted August 2, 2004 Be aware that it doesn't play KOF95 as that game used a proprietary RAM card Ultraman also uses a special RAM cart (not that you'd want to play it anyway). Also note that if you want to play Vampire Savior (Darkstalkers 3) you'll need to make a very simple mod to the cart. Tempest
JB #14 Posted August 2, 2004 Ultraman and King of Fighters 95 used ROM carts, not RAM.
