Godzilla #1 Posted July 31, 2004 and I had forgotten just how fast and smooth that game was. Really a blast to play, very atmospheric. Great sound and music design, as well as really nice lighting. It's amazing how the psx version pales next to it. The original Tomb Raider was another title like that. Anyway, I had forgotten just how fast this game moves, makes many of the more recent fps'es like halo etc. seem really slow by comparison. What do you think? Lost Monkey #2 Posted July 31, 2004 I think I've played/owned over 200 Saturn titles and I have still never seen this game, in a store, on a train, in a mouse or in the rain. Is is like Lobotomy's Quake? Or smoother?
Godzilla #3 Posted July 31, 2004 It's a good bit smoother, it uses sprites for the enemies, so only the environs are all textured lit 3d goodness. I heard all sorts of weird rumors that this game wasn't coming to retail, had been pulled cause the saturn was dying, etc. Then it showed up at my local flea market for $20, and I bought one. I later heard about how a local truck had it's contents stolen, I don't know if any of that related to me, but I had the game many months before our local stores did. By the time our local stores got the game in, I had already beaten it...
Lost Monkey #4 Posted July 31, 2004 So it must be more like Duke.. with the sprites etc. Duke was pretty damned good! Me wantee!
Godzilla #5 Posted July 31, 2004 Yes, saturn Duke is excellent too, but imho, of lobotomy's three, their one original title (and their first,) Power Slave (aka Exhumed in UK,) is the best. It also has team dolls and death tank :-) Interestingly enough, the pc version (which I hunted down,) is imho far inferior to the Saturn version. I think the pc version also long pre-dates the Saturn version. It's funny you mention Duke, and that Lobotomy programmed Saturn Duke, as I just remembered the title on top of a Power Slave poster I have at home 'Duke may rock, but Ramses rules!' Ironically they went on to program Duke Nuke 'Em! LOL
+Cafeman #6 Posted August 1, 2004 Saturn Powerslave is a testimate to Lobotomy's coding skills and dedication. Just for comparison, play Saturn Hexen right after playing Powerslave ... ech! (Hexen = slow, colorles, choppy). Powerslave has a cool Egyptian/aliens theme and great game play mechanics. I love the grenades and how they can destroy some walls to find hidden stuff. The light sourcing on the jackal dogs' fireballs is too cool, too. Great game!
RJ #7 Posted August 1, 2004 I scooped up the PS version for $5 some time ago & was quite impressed. I had a hard time starting out in it (didnt know to look up in a certain area & thought I was stuck!) I still have yet to complete it but last time out I made huge progress IIRC. Godzilla #8 Posted August 2, 2004 You'd be more impressed by how much better the Saturn version is :-) Lobotomy had to redisgn many levels to accomodate the psx's lesser 3d capabilities and draw distances :-) (true story,)
