Jaguar Last Starfighter Re: Simple is better Thread

Recommended Posts

This was inspired by the Simple is better thread, but I felt it deserved it's own thread because it's such a great idea :-)

You know, I just had a moment of divine inspirado regarding this.

The Last Star Fighter arcade game NEEDS to finally see the light of day, and it should be on Atari hardware. What better than the Jag??

heres some text info and gameplay descriptions

klov has some screen grabs from the movie (which has the game being played in it,)

If you watch the movie you will get a good idea for the look and play of the game.

I think the jag could do this game 100%!

The Jag could do a Last Starfighter like game, but it couldn't duplicate the graphics seen in the movie. It would take something like a PS2 to do that.

I'm talking about the graphics in the game in the movie. the Jag could do it perfectly! :lust:

But the graphics from the arcade game that was in the movie were flat shaded polygons, so that wouldn't be much of a problem. Making it look like the real movie CGI that was rendered on a Cray Supercomputer couldn't be done. But the movie's arcade version, sure.

That would've been the best arcade game ever made, just for the movie tie-in.

Actually, Jason Data has been wanting to do this game himself for a long time, he has a web site (or had?) devoted to it. But his problem was that it would cost like $10,000(?) for the license. though I always felt this was a ridiculous reason NOT to do this game, it's the game that's important, not the title, so why not make the game, like the arcade game in the movie, but just name it differently. After all, it's already been done in the case of Battlesphere, which 4-play wanted to be StarRaiders 2000, but Atari wouldn't let them becuase they said that title was already taken (oh, yeah? well where the hell is it then  ). But every one knows that "alone against the empires" mode IS exactly that. So I say Jason or someone should go ahead and do it, just don't worry about the license and call it something else...how about 'The last Star Pilot' or something. Anyway, I'm really not sure if Jason's idea was to do a game based on the movie, or a game based on the game in the movie... :ponder:

But, yes, the Jaguar could do it! But that's basically my concept anyway, I just wasn't going to worry about calling it something that has to be licensed.

Yea, the name doesn't matter and the Jag could do it perfectly, I think. The game in the movie looks entirely within the realm of the jags capabilities and is also exactly the type of game gunstar was talking about in his other thread. we need 'death blossom' on our jaguars :-)
