I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix a sega genesis 2 that gets a bad power connection. I've heard that you can open it up and do some resodering but I'm not exactly sure what it is you need to resoder.

Also does anyone know where I can get the cord that runs from the back of a sega 32x into the gene. I got a really good deal on my 32x but it didn't come with this cord. I thought it wouldn't be to hard to find one but its turning out to be a lot harder than I thought. Thanks.

Those cords are hard to find in my experience. As for fixing the genny...they're so abundant that you should just pick up a new one IMHO.

By "bad power connection" do you mean the picture will occasionally get full of static but you can get a better picture by jacking with the power cord?

I picked up a Genesis 2 this summer that is doing that and it is driving me CrAzY.

Sorry, not much help.

Its not so much it does that. Its that sometimes the power doesn't work and you have to mess with the cord to get any power. So once I have it working you have to be careful not to bump the genesis or you lose power. Both of mine do the same thing. A local game store said you have to resoder but I don't know exactly what and where to do it.

Open up your Genesis so you can get to the bottom side of the circuit board. You need to remove the metal shielding and a bunch of screws. Now check the solder points on the power connector, where you plug in the power cord. These are the solder points you probably need to resolder. Or you could also be having a problem with your power cord.

I've had to do this to one of my segas. Its not to hard. Just take the top of it off, then you will have a few screws that are holding on a rf sheild. Remove the sheild and then I think there may be a few more screws holding the pcb down. Pull the board out, plai it over, and then just resolder the pins that are holding the power plug on to the board. Then reasemble. While its apart you might want to resolder the controller ports to. I had to do this to mine also because I would have to push down on my controller cable to get it to work.

You sure there aren't severed wires in the power cord itself and nothing wrong with the system? Try bending the power cord gently at various points while the genesis is on. Use a non-save game though, so nothing screws up.

Forgive me if I missed reading anything..

If the jack itself is loose I'd open it up to take a look.

well my boy (ravenone) came over and soldered my genesis and it's working again, but he saw the other one, and it has red and black cables, they almost look as if someone had soldered them before, so maybe that was an issue. Does anyone have any idea about the red and black cables versus the board in my genesis that didn't have any cables. pictures, schematics ideas on that would be appreciated. Although I am happy that he had sucess on the first

It's a major hackjob, but there's something you can do. Cut like 15 wires to be about 6 inches long each. Strip each end. Then shove the ends of the wires into the port on the back of the genesis. Then connect them to the same spot on the Sega 32x. Make sure you connect each one to the same spot on the 32x. Like if you put one wire in the very bottom hole on the genesis, then put it in the very bottom hole on the 32x. Do this for all of them. Then connect the cable that goes from the genesis to the TV, into the 32x. So that it is going to the TV.

It is a HUGE hackjob, but it works. I had to do it with my 32x.

If you have any questions, just ask.

Hello,

I have about 5 Genesis' in my collection, and out of all the cords cables and accessories that are still relatively common that is by far the hardest to find. If you don't have a local supplier, are lucky, or have an account on eBay, then you are up shit creek without a paddle. I had one, but did the stupid thing and sold it to my friend with one of my extra 32xs. I really can never find one of these, yet if you are persistent one will appear. I have found one in my time as a game collector; it was nigger-rigged to Sega Genesis Model "II" RF switch male to female cable, which hooks to a Sega Genesis Model "I."

My idea is going to be easier than any other idea you'll find. This question was asked before(by me) at that was pretty much the solution we came up with. The cables are hard to find, and doing the thing that I posted is easier and cheaper than making your own cable.
