Inky #1 Posted October 7, 2001 What, in your 'umble opinion, is the best 2600 game you played whose graphics out and out sucked? I can think of a couple. My #1 in this category was Reactor. Nobody bought it because the vastly under-rated arcade game didn't exactly set the arcades on fire, so I picked it up for a pittance when it first came out. Man is the game ever addicting. The music was pretty close to the arcade as well. Spelling errors come at no cost to you, the consumers. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Mindfield #2 Posted October 7, 2001 I think I might have to go with Adventure. I know a lot of people might argue with me on this, but really... those weren't exactly cutting edge graphics, and it was only a 4k game, so one couldn't expect great visuals. Still... paraplegic dragons with holes in their belly, boxy castles, and you, the player, but a humble square. (What the heck do you carry those items with, anyway? Suction?) But for all of that I don't think anyone can argue that this is just one fun game. I can't quite put my finger on exactly what makes it fun; it's really quite simplistic, though that's part of its charm, and there's really not a lot to do. StanJr #6 Posted October 7, 2001 Adventure takes this category, hands down. Fun as you can get, but bland in the visuals. Runner up goes to Zaxxon. I LOVE this game, but as we all know it is a disappointing port. Despite its ugliness, I play it non-stop. moycon #7 Posted October 7, 2001 I'd have to say Haunted House. The Atmosphere of the game was certainly spooky with the blowing wind and creaking doors. But I have to disagree with you about Reactor having the best music of the 2600. Pitfall II takes those honors by a mile. Jess Ragan #16 Posted October 9, 2001 I can't get into Pitfall II's music. While it's impressive that they crammed that much tuneage into a 2600 cart, it sounds way too much like the background music in (shudder) Super Pitfall for the NES. That game was like the anti-Pitfall... not only does it play more like Super Mario Bros. than anything else, but it doesn't push the limits of its host system the way Pitfall did on the 2600. StanJr #17 Posted October 9, 2001 Yeah that pitfall sucked bad. I hated that stupid graphic at the top, the so-called Health Meter, that had the alligator eating Harry. Dumb Dumb Dumb. The PSX Pitfall was much better, but NOTTHING beats the originals. I always thought the music was cool, just because it was there and not on most other games. I guess this is the point where I mention that I am not the best game player in the world. Although I do admit that the graphics are pretty bad.
