Composite/S-Video hardware mod

Recommended Posts

So. I'm not very handy with a soldering iron. I modded one of my 2600's for composite output, but it was somewhat fragile and fell apart after some very modest jostling. Surely someone can do a better job than I, and I would pay for it. Anyone want to mod one of my 2600's so I can use my switchbox and get better audio/video? S-Video would be ideal, but composite would do.

I know Chris Wilkson is working on a kit, and I would love to buy one, but I don't know when it will be out.

If anyone can do a nice job of this for me, I would be very grateful.

Sign me up for one of these also. I'd also gladly pay someone to do this mod, especially if a handy-dandy s-video and audio connectors were neatly accessible without having to open the case up.

Sigh...looks like I'm actually gonna have to make this thing into non-vaporware at some point.

Actually though, I guess a few hundred people saw a working prototype at CGE this year, so does it really count as vaporware?

Anyone who wants the (in)famous 2600 video mod, please email me and I'll add you to my announcements list. I'm looking at a January release date, but it may be sooner.

Chris do you have an estimate price of what the mod will run?

Just curious..

You may want to provide your email address, as it seems you have it set so people can't view it through the message board.

Crossbow,

The 2600 AV Mod will be sold as a kit for

ROUGHLY $20-25. This is a tentative estimate only, and is subject to change.

I want one for the Coleco Gemini!!!! I'll even send you a Coleco (with a busted joystick port, but it turns on and displays fine).

d8thstar,

I don't have a website (yet) and probably won't for a while. The AV Mod is a daughter board that replaces the TIA chip on the motherboard. It is completely internal. With the possible exception of the 2600 Jr. which is, in part, holding up the release of the mod.

For those of you who have a copy of "Stella at 20: Volume 2" from the Cyberpunks, Glenn used an (early) version of this mod to produce the 2600 screen captures used in the documentary. There were also some emulated screen captures, I think, so be aware of the difference.
