Why dont my game work

I got this pitfall2 cart ( i think it is by the chips) i think i posted about once before without a label and i cant get teh cart to work . i dont know why it wont work anyone up for a challenge?

the best ive got is just a start up screen i cant get into teh game itself. ( maybe it needs cleaning ) i tried alcahol and rubbing what else can i do to clean the dirt off to actully get this game playable

What do you mean start up screen? I thought that Pitfall 2 just went straight to the actual game screen. If you pushed the joystick button or moved the joystick....The game would start...If you didnt...It went into a demo mode.

all i know is i start it up and it says activsion 1983 on the bottom and it wont start up into the game. i am thinking at one point it did and looked like that game ebn has mystery cart # 2. but it i think its the screen and chip acting up . who knows about protos of pitfall2 ( very very early stages before the game was playable to any extent. and also who knows about messed up activision carts. ( if someone knows both woudl be a bigger help)
