Cousin Vinnie #1 Posted August 6, 2004 I'm expanding my video game universe a wee bit, and I will start wrtiting articles that will cover more than just the Atari 7800. My first article took me about 3 months to write, believe it or not, since it was a lot tougher to complete than I thought. Anyway, look it over and tell me what you think. Maybe this can start a debate or something... sounds like a hoot. http://www.flipsiderunner.com/7800/atoz.html Cousin Vinnie

ubersaurus #3 Posted August 6, 2004 There is no way in hell Ikaruga or Tower Toppler are top 50 games. No way in hell. Starflight, now that's a top 50.
Mr.FoodMonster #4 Posted August 6, 2004 I think that list makes my face hurt
figgler #5 Posted August 6, 2004 There is no way in hell Ikaruga or Tower Toppler are top 50 games. No way in hell. Starflight, now that's a top 50. I'd agree, but he's working within the confines of the alphabet remember. Ice Climber, Ice Hockey and Ico are all better than Ikaruga too and they start with I. If I had 3 months to think this up and put it together, I would have realised too that Lemmings 2 doesn't hold a candle to Legend of Zelda
Cousin Vinnie #6 Posted August 6, 2004 There is no way in hell Ikaruga or Tower Toppler are top 50 games. No way in hell. Starflight, now that's a top 50. This is an ABC list, yo....not a top 50. What is better than Ikaruga at "I", IYO. Starflight friggin' rocks, I wish I still have it. Did you ever beat it? Cousin Vinnie
The Historian #7 Posted August 6, 2004 Rez or Resident Evil rather than Rampart Metroid rather than Mike Tyson Virtual Fighter 2, 4 rather than Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 But then.. it's all opinion...
NintendoDieScreaming #8 Posted August 6, 2004 Okay, I love Street Fighter II as much as the next guy, but I must disagree with Sonic The Hedgehog NOT being 'S'...
compacho #9 Posted August 7, 2004 ya do realize this is just an opinion of what games are good. There's no official list of what the greatest games are, so relax and think for yourself. Ikaruga is damn good enough to be the best "I" game there.
video game addict #10 Posted August 7, 2004 That's a really nice list, and some stuff I wouldn't expect to find on a top all-time list like that.. I would agree with you on most. A few I differ, but that's your list, so it's based off your likes & what you've played. A few alphabets I'd change, Starting with B, Bonk, Bubble Bobble(series, Rainbow Islands, Parasol Stars) or Blazing Lazers (this could also fall under G to give you more leverage Bomberman is a great HM too! Castlevania series, I personally always liked Crystalis by SNK on NES, neat little RPG, Comix Zone is also a well liked one I see in your HM. I'm with you on D, Destruction Derby was & still is a great game, I have DD2 now, but it's in my to sell list, as I'm about to thin down some. It's always been a fun multiplayer game. Also lots of love for Devil's Crush too! Doom gets high regards but not as fun to me, not a big FPS type.. Also the whole DDR crazy, not all that important to me either. But I like Demon Attack I would have it as an HM at the very least.. again if it were my list I would add the Gradius series in as HM to the letter G, but I too would accept Goldeneye as top spot. Hot Shots Golf! Well I perfer part 3 for PS2, but that is a fun game especially multiplayer, & the mini putt-putt game within! HERO also would make it either HSG3 or HERO for me, can't decide.. I is good just the way it is, Ice Climber is great classic gaming goodness, but it's a bit dated now. ICO is another of them highly regarded top picks, I've had but never found time to play. Personally I'd rather own Ikaruga. I'd add in KLAX to the letter K! It would be the top spot on my list. At L, I would sneak L. of Zelda down to Z, you can then leave L for Lemmings, although I've never been a big fan of them, kind of like a poor man's Oddworld, which could of been an HM down below. Lemmings I believe I've read has had the most ports of all time on home consoles, computers, etc. More so than any other game EVAR! That's definitely a popular game, even if people aren't playing : I also like Mike Tyson's at M. But I love the Metal Slug series, & another classic Nes era & beyond, Megaman! And Mr. Driller!! 2-player Mario Bros is also quite nice! And Miner 2049er.. I've nver played or heard of Mr Bones. For P I'd pick either Phantasy Star series or Puyo Puyo, Pitfall & Pitfall II also both great & one of my alltime favs, Pengo! Pro Wrestling WTF! I can see you're a raslin' fan though, even several of your HM were in that genre. To each their own. Qix is undoubtably my pick for the letter Q. I favor the 5200 version, but that's ok. I like NES version as well, and the updated Super Qix, or Volfied if your Japanese. All 3 of your R's are top picks! If I were to add to them, I'd throw in Rez & possibly R-type series or Raiden. Maybe even River Raid as well. S is for Street Fighter II I think, although I would prefer the Samuari Spirits/Shodown series, or even Soul Calibur to them.. I'm surprised there's no Tetris titles at T! Not even as Tetrisphere or Tetris Attack, tet..something..another. Tower Toppler LOL Your 7800 blood shines through! And at Y I'd add in Yoshi's Cookie, make as HM. Well that's my additions, favortisms, top picks whatever. Not that it means much to yours. I liked most even if I prefer one of the above mentioned better, almost every single title in your list & listed HMs are great games. A few wrestling titles I'm not keen to, and a couple system specific, Lynx & 7800 that, although great in their on right, wouldn't be quite as high on most lists. But that's why it's your list, Very nicely done too I might add! I haven't taken the time to read each & every entry, but I will check back & go over again at some point. I spent about & hour just looking over & thinking about some of those titles. Some I haven't played in ages on your list Twisted Metal 2, KI, etc.. but good games none the less! Rocko #11 Posted August 7, 2004 I am glad to see BC Racers on there, love that game! (Only played the Pc version, but still.) Glad to see it was mentioned. Pro Wrestling: GREAT Choice. Same with Destruction Derby. We should put together a list, just with the top 5 from each letter.
Trip_Cannon #12 Posted August 7, 2004 Have you guys ever played a drinking game that utilizes the alphabet in play? You can use it for any subject: movie titles, band groups, video games, etc.. You get in a circle, start off with 'A,' one person names off a movie or whatever, "Anaconda!" Next person "Alice in Wonderland!" and so on. When a person can't think of one they take a drink and either move on to the next one or the person can change letters to B... If they mention the same one, which happens a lot then the same rule applies. Anyway, where was I going with this... whenever I don't have to worry about rules or whatever I can spout names of movies, games, whatever off... it's only when I have to think about it that I have a rough time!! Does anybody else have that problem!?!?

Did you ever beat it? Cousin Vinnie Yeah, I finished starflight using a guide, and again not too long ago without one. Really all you need to win is a notepad and some paper to write down coordinates and info. Everyone but the Thrynn, really, have information useful to you (the thrynn do too, but it's all repeated elsewhere). Just know the right questions to ask, and get that Rod Device-it's ever so useful.
ubersaurus #16 Posted August 9, 2004 Dammit, I forgot the actual reason for the post-Impossible Mission, I think, is beter then Ikaruga. Iky just lacked a certain something that makes me want to keep playing it, and I've met several other shooter fans who feel the same way.
Adrian M #17 Posted August 9, 2004 Most humorous are the entries for the letter V. *Virtual Pro Wrestling 2???!?!? *Viewtiful Joe?!?!? :lolblue: *Virtua Fighter 4?????!!! :lolblue: Out of all the games people could choose, they went with those? Iky just lacked a certain something that makes me want to keep playing it, and I've met several other shooter fans who feel the same way. Yeah, I think Impossible Mission is pretty cool, but my first experience was with the 7800 version, and when I found out it was unbeatable, it kind of pissed me off. I always thought I was doing something wrong, and when I learned that my 7800 was junk, I was really annoyed with it. Never got over it. Most humorous are the entries for the letter V. *Virtual Pro Wrestling 2???!?!? *Viewtiful Joe?!?!? *Virtua Fighter 4?????!!! Out of all the games people could choose, they went with those? Dear lord... I do not mind people saying that the games I think are good suck, but please enlighten me on what's better. Just don't keep saying that I suck if you offer no alternatives. I have recieved emails and posts telling me to look out for other games, and people had tried games that I have mentioned b/c of this article. That's kind of the point of the thing. Cousin Vinnie #19 Posted August 9, 2004 I'd add in KLAX to the letter K! It would be the top spot on my list. I added Klax b/c of your recommendation. Thank you. Cousin Vinnie
Cousin Vinnie #20 Posted August 9, 2004 New sigma article: Stop spammingSigma How many places are you going to post the same exact thread? Adrian M One more thing too, guys: Don't sit around and post crap like this to me. I am a grown man. If I have something of interest that pertains to more than one area on the boards, I will post in more than one place. You and your comments won't affect me. If the moderators don't like what I post, they can pull it. I have been on the boards for 3 to 4 years now and I'm not a 12 year old spam king. I contribute alot to AA, mostly to the 7800 part of the site, so the people over there no me fairly well. Now you know me. Let me do my own damn thing and you try to do something worthwhile with your damn lives besides policing a video game board. For Christ's sake, this is supposed to be a fun hobby. If I want someone telling me what to do I'll go work in a cubicle. Cousin Vinnie
HawgWyld #21 Posted August 9, 2004 For what it's worth, I enjoyed the heck out of the article and I'm glad you took the time to both write it and post it here. And, no, I didn't agree with all of it, but such is the case when one is dealing with such a subjective topic as which video games are the best, right? Interesting choices all around, even if you're wrong about a lot of them

Dear lord... You have to be a fucking retard to not realize that Virtua Fighter 4 is probably the GREATEST fighting game of all time. It deserves to be on any top games list. Evolution was the better version though...and I hear the new Final Tune is leaps and bounds better then even that. But VF4 as a whole is great.
figgler #23 Posted August 10, 2004 You have to be a fucking retard to not realize that Virtua Fighter 4 is probably the GREATEST fighting game of all time. It deserves to be on any top games list. Having a differing opinion doesn't necessarily equal retardation. But, I do hear your point though. Not much else to ask for and not much to bitch about in VF4. A very nice fighting package indeed. 'Course it all depends on what you like. I'll argue to the grave that Super Street Fighter 2 was the highest point the genre will ever see.
