raindog #1 Posted August 7, 2004 OK, I have come to grips with the fact that I have become a collector of the Jakks-Pacific-style all-in-one "tv games" devices, and there are now so many out there that I've lost track of them. The ones I'm interested in collecting are (a) based on actual old videogames, i.e. I'm not buying the Spongebob or "classic generic pinball" ones, (b) NTSC for use on North American TV's, and © licensed. (I have a few unlicensed NES ones, but there's essentially an infinite number of variations in that world making it impossible to collect.) Here's what I have. Jakks Activision 10-in-1, old style (not boxed) Jakks Atari 10-in-1 Jakks Activision 10-in-1, new style Intellivision 25-in-1 Jakks Namco Pac-Man joystick Jakks Namco Ms. Pac-Man joystick Here's what I know of currently existing or soon to exist: Jakks Atari Paddle, 1 player (waiting for me now at walmart ) Jakks Atari Paddle, 2 player Jakks Namco Pac-Man Gamepad Radica Taito Gamepad (Space Invaders/Qix/Phoenix/etc.) Radica Sega Genesis Gamepad Radica Tetris Gamepad Tulip Commodore 64 Joystick Can anyone think of any I've missed here? It seems to me there was another company about to release a gamepad with arcade ports, but I can't remember it now. Jakks may have more products in the pipeline that I'm forgetting too. Susuwatari #2 Posted August 7, 2004 You're missing that yellow Sponge controller. It's mostly for little kids but pretty much the same idea as the other controller systems.
vb_master #3 Posted August 8, 2004 Is that Tulip Commodore 64 controller out yet?
raindog #4 Posted August 8, 2004 Susu, as I said, "I'm not buying the Spongebob or "classic generic pinball" ones." Just the ones with recreations of older games. vb, I don't think the Commodore one is out yet, at least in the US... they're saying "second half of 2004" so it could be anytime now. I would expect it'll be out before xmas, though I have no idea who'd carry it (even the Intellivision one never showed up in walmart/target/TRU, I bought mine in Linens'n'Things of all places....) rogueleader #5 Posted August 8, 2004 Yes, I know it doesn't fit the criteria but I feel the need to mention that there is also a Spiderman one. I have never seen it though, just a picture. And I think that the paddle one is very cool! Also the Ms. Pca Man controler. I only have the first Pac Man and the Atari style one but I want more! rogueleader #6 Posted August 8, 2004 Oh and I have the old one too. Actually it's kind of funny how I got that one: I was at PhillyClassic and I was buying a game from a vendor. I was trying to make a deal and I spied the controler lying on his table so I offered him X amount for it and the game. Afterwards I went up to a friend who I was there with and said, look what I got. And then he told me he had just traded that controler to the same guy not even a minute before I had walked up and bought it! I knew it looked familiar! George Gray #7 Posted August 8, 2004 There are more on the way: Jakks has partnered with EA Sports: http://www.licensingmedia.com/news/html/07...-4.html#jakksea --this controller will play Madden '95 and NHL '95. Another will play FIFA Soccer and Triple Play Baseball Jakks has licensed games from Capcom: http://www.jakkstvgames.com/press/pr021804.doc --Capcom games include 1942, Ghosts 'N Goblins, Mega Man, Gun Smoke and Side Arms Jakks has licensed games from Midway: http://www.jakkstvgames.com/press/pr021604.doc --the Midway games include Mortal Kombat®, Spy Hunter®, Rampage®, Joust®, Defender® I & II, Robotron:2084®, Marble Madness®, Smash TV™, Super Sprint™ and Paperboy®. Of course, there is also the Disney, Spiderman and Songebob 2 'consoles' coming out, but I am assuming they are of no interest. Did you include the Intellivision units? While they are far from perfect, they are (for me and my kid) still quite fun. Also, I thought I saw a blurb about other EA franchises including SimCity, but I cannot find it now. George Gray #9 Posted August 8, 2004 Intellivision 25-in-1 OOPS! Sorry, it's late...I missed that!
raindog #10 Posted August 8, 2004 Thanks, the Capcom and Midway ones were the Jakks ones I had forgotten. If only there were still an edit button, I'd add them to the initial list Not interested in the EA sports ones, the Spider-Man one, the Disney one, the pinball one, the Spongebob one, or anything else that doesn't have an emulation/simulation/recreation of older videogames. I don't just mean older titles, I mean an attempt to make it play like those titles as well.
George Gray #11 Posted August 8, 2004 Not interested in the EA sports ones, the Spider-Man one, the Disney one, the pinball one, the Spongebob one, or anything else that doesn't have an emulation/simulation/recreation of older videogames. I don't just mean older titles, I mean an attempt to make it play like those titles as well. Understood. I'm wondering what they are using for the sports titles though. Since they are including such old titles, I'm wondering if maybe they are emulated versions of Sega Genesis (or whichever console they had out then, I don't recall.) Atariboy #12 Posted August 8, 2004 There's a Intellivision 10 in 1 in addition to the 25 game one. http://www.astrosmash.com/retrotopia/direct2tv.shtml
raindog #13 Posted August 8, 2004 Yeah, I know, but I already have the INTV 25 and have never found an INTV 10. Since one is a superset of the other it doesn't seem that important to me (as opposed to the 1 vs. 2 player Atari paddles, which have differently implemented games on each.) rogueleader #14 Posted August 9, 2004 Is the pinball one you keep metioning something new or something form many years ago. I'd actually like to see that one.
raindog #15 Posted August 9, 2004 I had one in my hands at TRU last week; it came out at the same time as the Ms. Pac-Man one. It wasn't plugged in though. Apparently they couldn't line up any actual licensing deals for tables, so there's some number of generic pins meant to evoke different time periods, the controller feels sort of like a generic 3rd party gamepad but with two big buttons for your thumbs and a plunger you pull down where the "third leg" of an n64 stick would be. IGN review of Jakks Pinball with picture So, here's the present tally of currently available and soon-to-be-released N-in-1's of licensed old games, in roughly chronological order: Jakks Activision 10-in-1 Gamepad Jakks Atari 10-in-1 Joystick Jakks Namco Pac-Man Joystick Intellivision 25-in-1 Gamepad Intellivision 10-in-1 Gamepad Jakks Activision 10-in-1 Joystick Jakks Namco Ms. Pac-Man Joystick Jakks Atari Paddle, 1 player Jakks Atari Paddle, 2 player Jakks Namco Pac-Man Gamepad Radica Taito Gamepad Radica Sega Genesis Gamepad Radica Tetris Gamepad Tulip Commodore 64 Joystick Jakks Capcom Gamepad Jakks Midway/Atari/Williams Gamepad So, by the time I'm done (assuming this xmas is the end of the fad) I'll have 15 or 16 of them, not counting the unlicensed ones. That's getting to be pretty insane, like these are the new pongs
Susuwatari #16 Posted August 9, 2004 Just wondering if anyone changed Atari 10-in-1. I was playing a demo at Toys R Us yesterday and I was trying for the easter egg but the wall never vanished. Yet I remember earlier that I was able to get through and the hidden message was something like insert text here.
Rob Mitchell #17 Posted August 9, 2004 (as opposed to the 1 vs. 2 player Atari paddles, which have differently implemented games on each.) What's the difference between these two? Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
raindog #18 Posted August 10, 2004 I haven't seen either one in real life yet, but as I understand it.... the 1 player paddle has all either AI or one-player-only games, and the 2 player paddle... doesn't.
heavy-sixer #19 Posted August 11, 2004 Anybody see or have the "Arcade Legends Space Invaders" plug n' play game? I'm interested in this one, not for Space Invaders, but for Phoenix. I used to love Phoenix in the arcades. I don't think it has been released in any of the next gen console collections. Walmart has it listed but says it's out of stock. Gamestop and EB games had it listed a couple of weeks ago but now I can't find it on their sites. Walmart link.

I don't think this one was released yet, supposed to be sometime later this month. If only someond would come out with the Channel F handheld console...my world would be complete. Raijin Z #21 Posted August 11, 2004 I think the combined filesize of all the Channel F roms, when compressed, occupy fewer kilobytes of disk space than the text I have just typed does.
raindog #22 Posted August 12, 2004 Yeah, the Space Invaders/Qix/Phoenix one hasn't come out yet. Looking forward to that one... yeah, I have MAME, but Phoenix's sound has always been tough to emulate (which I suppose should worry me since it's Radica's first attempt...) SS #23 Posted August 12, 2004 Yeah, the Space Invaders/Qix/Phoenix one hasn't come out yet. It's out. I saw it at WalMart this evening. It was the first time that I saw the Jakks Paddles too. Limited funds kept me from buying them tonight but I plan to eventually. Does the two player version of the paddles really support one player games in Pong/Warloards/etc? If so, I supposed that I should spend the extra $10 and pick them up instead.
Coleco Kong #24 Posted August 12, 2004 btw the Capcom one will include Side Arms, Gunsmoke, Ghosts N' Goblins, 1942, and MEGA MAN. Source: http://www.jakkstvgames.com/press.html
raindog #25 Posted August 12, 2004 Last I heard, the 2 player paddles were 2 player only, and the 1 player paddle was 1 player only. I figured I'd have to buy both. It'll be ironic to own reproductions of the original Atari paddles without having a working pair of real ones (2 ebay purchases, 2 rattly, jittery sets of paddles....)
