Adrian M #1 Posted August 9, 2004 I know we've all heard about the metal cases for the LE edition of HALO 2. But seeing them in person is something else! EB and Gamestop stores have begun to put out the LE Metal Cases out on display (instead of the plastic mockups that have been out for months now). Those of you who appreciate beautiful/fucntional packaging will NOT be disappointed! Very well made and very attractive. Thankfully, these are not metal cases that clamp down (like those AOL disc cases that have been coming in the mail recently). But rather, this is a DVD case with a metal outside, a nicely made hinge and a plastic interior. This will be very durable and no larger than a regular DVD case. For the extra $5, I suggest anyone on the fence opt for this edition!
JerseyDevil #2 Posted August 9, 2004 Its hard enough waiting for this game to come out without you constantly talking about it. I don't think I have been looking forward to a game so much since Zelda: OoT.
Jasoco #3 Posted August 9, 2004 I haven't been in a game store in a while. So I'll have to check it out... in a month.. after I buy my iBook.. because if I go into one now, I will spend my money.. then I can't buy the iBook.. and iPod.. so I have to wait.. glad I'll be getting it though. Any pictures? I can't wait.
Adrian M #4 Posted August 9, 2004 Any pictures? I can't wait. Well, the overall design hasn't changed since the first pics came out. The ones on display are marked as promos though, so it's possible they may change the art on the back before ship date, so who knows. But it looks just like the pic below. Picture that, only in DVD case format with a sturdy hinge and you have the general idea!
Stingray #5 Posted August 9, 2004 I'm quite the sucker for unusual and attractive packaging. This sounds like a very clever marketing gimmick. I'm not a Halo player so I was unaware of this LE box. I'd like to see some pictures of one open if someone has one to take pictures of. Can you tell what kind of metal it is? I hope it isn't aluminum or something else that might scratch or tarnish easily. Sounds like a great display piece. -S

The interior is a gray plastic that seems pretty solid (unlike plastic used in a standard DVD case). Let me reiterate that this is NOT a tin box (where the lid comes off completely), but a hinged DVD metal case. Very, very sweet and well worth it for the extra $5. These Limited Edition versions probably won't be on store shelves very long, so it's advisable that you get you pre-orders in now!

RavenOne #8 Posted August 9, 2004 maybe it was just that I got my xbox like a year after it came out , but I was never truly impressed with halo... I know i'll get my butt kicked for saying this, but it just felt like the controls were quirky and overall the game experience wasn't totally shocking or amazing. Don't get me wrong i'll give halo 2 a chance when it comes out, you know to be fair, but I just kind of fear that with some of the latest releases , it's just gonna be so overshadowed, that nothing short of xbox fanboys will be hooked into it. Rocko #12 Posted August 10, 2004 Halo is a good shooter, but not the best, and is EXTREMELY overrated. I think I will wait about 6 months, and then buy halo 2, then I wont have to worry about trying to find one...
Mr.FoodMonster #13 Posted August 11, 2004 Thank you. Halo is the most overrated game in the past 10 years. Its an average shooter, but thats all. I hope Halo 2 dosn't suck. But yeah, you sound like a freaking sales drone posting 'IT'S ONLY $5 MORE!! REALLY WORTH IT'
Godzilla #14 Posted August 11, 2004 Well, it may be over-hyped, but I still love Halo. It's just a damn good game. But I have to say, compared to what the mac version looked like YEARS ago, I was disappointed (master chief commanding troops and using them to fill a warthog that they piloted and shot from, using a sword, and large open areas that didn't seem like levels at all, and rocket launchers on the warthogs and so much more...) Heck it looks like Halo 2 STILL isn't quite up to what Mac Halo WOULD have been...

IronMongeR #20 Posted August 11, 2004 I was fairly impressed when I first played Halo on the Xbox, but wasn't amazed. Then a couple of weeks ago I got Halo PC and since then I've been playing multiplayer non stop. It's great fun driving around in a Hog with 2 other people shooting at stuff. Adrian M #21 Posted August 11, 2004 It is still a tin box. Just like the Altoids tin, just bigger and it has a different logo. Um no it isn't. It's a case with hinges, not a tin box with two separate pieces. That's the point I'm trying to make here.

[/quote']But yeah, you sound like a freaking sales drone posting 'IT'S ONLY $5 MORE!! REALLY WORTH IT' As usual, you fail to look beyond the obvious. Average shooter? Perhaps to some, but then was there anything like Halo available for the Dreamcast or PS back in 2001? No. Not even close. Halo was and still is a technical marvel from an engine standpoint. The Dreamcast can barely handle a simple game like Halflife without having to load 10 times per level let alone handle seamless-organic worlds like the ones seen in Halo. Same thing goes for DOOM3. By and large, it's just another shooter as you would say. But it's the engine and the possibilities that it provides as well as the atmosphere/storyline which is the selling point. But yeah' date=' you sound like a freaking sales drone posting 'IT'S ONLY $5 MORE!! The only difference is, you're stuck with cheap CARDBOARD boxes for your hit titles!

It's a case with hinges, not a tin box with two separate pieces. That's the point I'm trying to make here. Actually all the Altroid tins I have seen have always been of the 'hinged' type. But there are some little round ones, those might not be hinged. And some for Altroids Strips, those aren't hinged either, i dont think, but all the ones I've ever seen around here, are the traditional mints, in hinged tins. Maybe you thinking of Sucrets..
Stingray #24 Posted August 11, 2004 Actually I'm pretty sure a Sucrets tin has hinges as well, but then it's been probably a decade since the last time I bought Sucrets so I could be wrong. I could say the same about the brainless Nintendo fanboys who go out and repurchase the same exact "classic" NES games for the GBA SP's! The last time I checked, I couldn't fit my NES or SNES in my pocket and play them wherever I happen to be at the time. That makes repurchasing my old Nintendo favorites in a portable format worth the money in my humble opinion. If that makes me a brainless fanboy then so be it. Adrian M should certainly know when when he sees one. -S

LOL you may be right there, it's been about the same for me too. But from what I recall, I was thinking they poped off, not hinged.. A reprogrammable flash cart device, with big lot of roms of all your games seems to be a far better value IMO. If Nintendo would release larger compilations of these games, not individual releases, they might be worth it.
