gavv #26 Posted August 10, 2004 Burgertime is good but I think the CV version plays more like the arcade. I find the INTV one too easy. I don't have Bump 'N' Jump for the INTV but I'll look for it. I love it on the CV with the Steering Wheel module. I'm also going to look for Dreadnaught Factor since I liked that one as a kid. I won't sell this thing, just as a collector it's about time I got one. I'm just disappointed in the game playing experience of it. I cannot see why this would be any kind of competition to a VCS, the CV or a 5200. as the person who currently holds the TG world records in both Intellivision and CV burgertime let me tell you that the CV/Arcade game is MUCH MUCH EASIER than Intellivision. Intellivision has much more challenging levels and speed as it gets up higher in levels. The CV version is relatively marathonable. only a undocumented as yet not nailed down glitch in the game keeps the scores down (currently) at just below the 500K level. and for Intv, the best i've gotten is like 332K gavv

On the CV version difficulty 3, I can barely make the 6th screen. I didn't keep count on the INTV version but I got much further than the 6th screen so I found it easier. Frankly, I'm no great Burgertime player to begin with
AtariLeaf #28 Posted August 10, 2004 I don't know. There may not be too many INTV games that aren't available on the 2600 or CV, much better systems. I agree with the comments about the controls though. Probably tied for the worst with the 5200. There are tons of great original games, many more than on the CV, IMHO.. such as: Thunder Castle Body Slam Wrestling AD&D Diner Buzz Bombers Shark! Shark! Horse Racing Dracula Truckin' Microsurgeon Happy Trails Sea Battle Thin Ice Tower of Doom Utopia Worm Whomper The Intellivision library is quickly dismissed by many, but look deeper and you can find some excellent games. It's amazing what they were doing with the system in the later years (up until 1989). A lot of the great games require are two-player though. Yes you're right. After I posted I did a little research and was surprised how many original games the INTV had. My bad.
AtariLeaf #29 Posted August 10, 2004 You *("The Garage Sale" - that's for AtariLeaf) Yea too bad he's gone now. There's a weird Christian store next door that has some stuff but the owner freaks me out. He looks like a homeless person and talks about government conspiricacy's. elviticus #30 Posted August 10, 2004 I think you CAN fall in love with a system you didn't have as a kid - the Intellivision, mostly because of control - is a little harder to love. B-17 bomber though, is still awesome and WHITE WATER! is good good fun.
tillenterprises #31 Posted August 10, 2004 I've loved the Intellivision version of Demon Attack, since the first time I saw it on display at JC Penney in 1982
HawgWyld #32 Posted August 10, 2004 I love the Astrocade. I need to get one. You must not have gotten the best titles (Incredible Wizard, Space Fortress, Galactic Invasion). Had all of those, actually. Didn't care for them as better alternatives existed for the Atari (well, Wizard of Wor flickers like a bastard on the 2600, but other maze shooters such as Berzerk exist for the 2600 if you're into that kind of thing). But, I return to the original point christianscott made -- it's hard to fall in love with a system you didn't have as a kid. I believe, in many instances, that's correct. chrisbid #33 Posted August 10, 2004 really, go after the imagic games. beauty and the beast is better than any early home port of donkey kong, atlantis is an entirely different game than the 2600 version, and games like microsurgeon while not super fun, were unique and inventive in the day. as for mattel games, bump n jump is fantastic. ill also plug burgertime again, there are seven boards total, getting through the first six are pretty easy, board seven is a bear, and the second time through the enemies all of the sudden move at light speed to gang rape poor chef pepper. also check out AD&D cloudy mountain. its a bit easy, but in the day it was a pretty cool little adventure game, random mazes provide surprises every time you play. Poker and Blackjack taught me how to play poker years before it became popular on cable the activision games are kindof lacking, the dreadnaught factor is ok, but i really like happy trails. this "ripoff" of loco motion is much smoother and easier on the senses than LM. coleco games are terrible, only buy if they are super cheap
Stingray #34 Posted August 10, 2004 Mission X: very crappy shooter made worse by horrible scrolling, bad controllers Hmm, I actually quite like that one. -S
joeybastard #35 Posted August 10, 2004 Mission X: very crappy shooter made worse by horrible scrolling, bad controllers Hmm, I actually quite like that one. -S I think the controllers make me dislike it. I can livew with the clkunky scrolling but I can't find a comfortable and effective way to bomb and fire. The buttons are just in a horrible spot. I don't even mind the disc that much, it's the fire buttons that kill me on these things.
Stingray #36 Posted August 10, 2004 I agree that the controllers are terrible. One of these days I intend to build myself a new INTV controller using an arcade stick & buttons. -S
Shawn Jefferson #37 Posted August 10, 2004 I just picked up an Intellivision 1 at the local flea market. It's in good shape and the controls seem to work fine. I paid $25 CAD for it plus 12 games. The guy gave me the price before looking in the box, and he thought there was only four games with it. All the games are pretty common. Some of them are (going from memory): Tron maze-a-tron Tron Deadly Discs Poker & Blackjack Atlantis Night Stalker Sub Hunt Astrosmash USCF Chess NBA Basketball Space Battle Triple Action We had an Intellivision with about twice as many games as this when I was a kid, but sold it all at a garage sale years ago. I remember playing Triple Action a lot with my sister, specifically Biplanes, and Snafu. I also remember playing Tron Deadly Discs a lot. I got over a million points once and got to the level where if the guys touch you, your game is over. I played the game last night and the guy moves so SLOW! I don't remember him being so slow... LOL! I used to be able to break the big red tron thing every time, no matter what direction it came in from... as I'm sure everybody else was able to as well... just had to line yourself up right. I don't know if I will keep the thing for the long haul or not, after I get together with my sister to play some of the old games again. I didn't particularly dislike the disc controller, but trying to use it now, after years and years of proper joysticks was fun!

King Atari #40 Posted August 11, 2004 It's definitely possible to love a system you didn't have as a kid. I can't get enough SMS and CV.
Coleco Kong #41 Posted August 11, 2004 off topic somewhat...but "Intellivison Lives" for Xbox...whenever I try to control some of the games, it doesn't budge...It'll ask me "How Many Players?" I put in 1...then after asking me something like difficulty or whatever...it'll just sit there...does anyone else have a problem with this?
