Inky #1 Posted October 12, 2001 Another in the seemingly endless Best/Worst questions... I have to get to be a 4 star poster SOMEhow Best M-Network IMHO -- Air Raiders. I loved this game and the challenge it presented. It was one of the better first-person games on the 2600 Worst? BurgerTime. How did the Blue playfield on the arcade version turned yellow, and due to the ever increasing stupidity of marketing (See Dilbert and Douglas Adam's book Life the Universe and Everything ) We have breadsticks and cheese and tomatoes chasing Peter Pepper around. And control is horrendous (although I do note that control on the arcade version was good, but it did have its foibles). A better version could have been made, but Marketing sticks thier noses where it shouldn't be once again.
StanJr #2 Posted October 12, 2001 Super Challenge Baseball was the best when I was a kid. It really sucks that there isn't a one player version. Burgertime could have been soooooooo cool! It totally sucks on the 2600. There aren't many M-Network games I have played, so my experience is limited. Frogs and Flies is fun too! Inky #3 Posted October 12, 2001 The only reason I didn't say that the baseball or football were #1 was due to the fact the games were 2 players only. Plus football had the annoying 10-yard hyperspace manneuver that made the game too easy.
Ze_ro #4 Posted October 12, 2001 I'd say Air Raiders is the most impressive title... though I seem to play Lock 'n' Chase more than any of the other M Network titles. I still don't have Burgertime (Though it was always amung my favorite arcade games), so at the moment I'd say that Space Attack is the least fun. I just never could get into this game. --Zero
videotwit #5 Posted October 12, 2001 2-Player Frogs and Flies is by far my favorite. It's at least 8 tons of fun. On the other hand, Kool-Aid Man really sucks the big donkey.
moycon #6 Posted October 12, 2001 I really didnt like any of the m network carts too much... Air Raiders/Bump and Jump/Burger Time were the ones I liked the best. Just about every other one to me were boring!! I remember I got Dark Caverns and as a kid to read the box youd think it was the best game in the world... BORING!! The sports ones were OK. woodyi76 #7 Posted October 12, 2001 most m-network games suck! There one of the worst companies for atari 2600. The only ones I enjoyed were astroblast and amorambush. I also hate the shape the games are in. It makes it hard to stack them with the other games.
Lemmi #8 Posted October 12, 2001 Bump-N-jump was good Dark caverns He-man masters of the universe Adv of Tron? was this a m-network game or Disney?
moycon #9 Posted October 12, 2001 Yeah your right M network did suck!! I forgot about how annoying the shape of the cart were. Some of the 3rd party carts had toungue and groove stacking going on. But not M Network. They didnt fit in with the rest of the collection at all!! Now that I think about it... I HATE M NETWORK!!! (Cept for the 3 I mentioned earlier...But I still hated their shape)
san-d-2000 #10 Posted October 12, 2001 Dark caverns is my favourite, get´s realy fast on the higher levels, I used to play this one quite often as a kid. As far as the shape of the cartridges and the problems stacking them is concerned , I started looking for boxed copies Sandy.
Joel D. Park #11 Posted October 12, 2001 I used to play alot of Astro Smash, it was a great game. Also, I was very impressed by Air Raiders. Most of the other sames weren't great, but they were all ok, no 100% stinkers IMHO. I do hate the cart shape though. Gimme at least a front label, that's what I live for. memorymoog #12 Posted October 12, 2001 Lock and Chase is my favorite... it captures the atmosphere of a paranoid nightmare... and those goons marching after you!

cvga #14 Posted October 13, 2001 I think Space Attack is their best game and Masters of the Universe is their worst. Overall though I thought MNetwork was one of the better 3rd party developers for the 2600.
StanJr #15 Posted October 13, 2001 I've only played it on the emu, but He-man is stupid hard. By the Power of Grayskull, Stan
Ze_ro #16 Posted October 13, 2001 I always thought it was weird how Mattel changed the names of some games when they brought them over to the Atari... for example: Atari -> INTV Astroblast -> Astrosmash Space Attack -> Space Battle Dark Cavern -> Night Stalker Major League Anything -> No-name Sports Game Of course, some of their games weren't changed at all (Burgertime, Lock 'n' Chase, etc)... but mostly because they were such big name titles already. Overall, I think M Network was a good company. Not because they were particularly good, but mostly because they weren't as particularly bad as companies like Froggo and Panda. Oh, and their cartridge shape sucks. I can't imagine why they would do this, since it probably costs more (more plastic + at least one extra assembly process to connect both pieces), and it's stupid looking. Maybe they wanted Atari people to accidentally buy INTV games, and INTV people to accidentally buy Atari games. --Zero
paul #17 Posted October 13, 2001 quoteI always thought it was weird how Mattel changed the names of some games when they brought them over to the Atari from the official intellivision website: The games were introduced in 1982 under the tradename "M Network" (M for Mattel). All of the games were Atari 2600 versions of already released Intellivision cartridges. In recognition, though, of the concern that the simpler Atari versions might reflect badly on the Intellivision originals, the names of the games were changed

StanJr #19 Posted October 13, 2001 Frogs and Flies ONE PLAYER? What is this? The one I had as a kid was definitely two player.

From AtariAge's HTML Frogs and Flies manual: Whenever either joystick controller is not used for 15 SECONDS, com- puter will take over and jump frog automatically. Automatically con- trolled frog will jump every couple of seconds. Tongue flash is also automatic.
