Atariboy #6 Posted August 15, 2004 There is also NASCAR Dirt to Daytona. Neither title is great in my opinion, too arcadish.
Jasoco #7 Posted August 15, 2004 There is also NASCAR Dirt to Daytona. Neither title is great in my opinion, too arcadish. Well, GameSpot gave Thunder 03 an 8.1 and it is the best selling NASCAR series. And what's wrong with Arcadish games?
GruBBworM #8 Posted August 15, 2004 arcadish is good is that a word????
Jasoco #9 Posted August 15, 2004 arcadish is good is that a word????LOL. I dunno. It can be.
Atariboy #10 Posted August 15, 2004 Nothing is wrong with them, unless you want to simulate the sport of NASCAR as realistically as possible. And EA's line op NASCAR titles is the best selling on consoles, but their PC ports of their NASCAR titles have sold very poorly when compared to Papyrus/Sierra's NASCAR titles. I don't know if that's a real word, but everyone here knew what it meant, and I'm sure there are many more words used in this community that aren't real either, or would draw strange looks when said in front of a normal person. Atariboy #11 Posted August 15, 2004 "Certainly the game gave the good folks at Electronic Arts something to mull over for its own NASCAR series, now in its fourth year and striving to reach the same level of believability and authenticity. " That's what Gamespot had to say a few weeks ago about Papyrus's 18 month old NASCAR Racing 2003 season, comparing it to EA's NASCAR titles. I suggest everyone not waste their money on EA's titles. They're improving, and the previews indicate their upcoming title will be improved even still, but they have a long road yet before they come close to at least matching what Papyrus has accomplished. Atariboy #12 Posted August 15, 2004 Sorry for the third post in a row (I sure hate not being able to edit anymore), but thought I should clarify something. They are good titles, they just don't satisfy my taste for realism. If you just want to turn some laps around Talladega racing the AI and not have to worry about spinning, they can be fun. NASCAR Thunder 2003 and Dirt to Daytona get some occasional playtime from me when I just want to fool around for a few minutes and not boot up the PC and hook the wheel up. For the casual fan, or those that don't like simulations, I guess they're good games. The Papyrus fanboy in me can't keep his mouth shut when the topic of NASCAR titles comes up, even when it has no real bearing on the topic at hand. Sorry
raindog #13 Posted August 16, 2004 Yeah, I'm one of those people who prefers Afterburner to X-Plane and, well, something even less realistic than NASCAR Thunder to the Papyrus series. I think you can cut the console titles some slack.... you're playing them with a freakin' gamepad Crazy Taxi was wowing me with its realism until I discovered you could drive underwater
Nintendo Penguin #14 Posted August 17, 2004 OKay, here is the deal with everythng NASCAR.... I would go back and purchase NASCAR Season 2003 for the PC if you have a decent system. All kinds of folks have made lots of mods for it so you can download the current schedule, points system, track,as well as classis NASCAR stuff. If you decided to go this route, visit www.jrsraceplace.com. That site is owned by Dale Jr, he does post on the message boards, and you can get a ton of helpful links there. If you are dead set on getting NASCAR for the cube, you should be able to find NASCAR Thunder 2003 brand new for about $19.00 or less. Dirt to Daytona is okay, but Thunder, despite all it's flaws is better. NEWS FLASH - EA will be making a NASCAR game for the cube. It should be released this fall. You mat want to hold out for that. I suspect EA feared my wrath and the tons of hate mail I forwared them for not releasing Thunder 2004 for the cube! That is why '05 will be on the cube. Atariboy #16 Posted August 17, 2004 Unless you bought NASCAR Racing 2003 Season by Papyrus for the PC, that link won't do you any good anyways. If you do buy NASCAR Racing 2003, here are some other good links for it. www.theuspits.com http://www.brianring.net/NR2003.html www.simracingconnection.com http://www.members.optushome.com.au/criminy/slincoln/ http://www.setup-guru.com/ And here is a good article about Gamespot about what Papyrus has accomplished in sim racing. http://www.gamespot.com/features/6103365/index.html And if you ever visit any of the Sierra/Vivendi game forums, one of their most active forums is their racing simulations one. You can get most any question you have about games like Grand Prix Legends and NASCAR Racing 2003 Season answered over there.
Atariboy #17 Posted August 17, 2004 "And here is a good article about Gamespot about what Papyrus has accomplished in sim racing. " That should read here is a good article by Gamespot. Here's a example of some of the great mods that have been made for NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. This one is the Project Wildfire IROC mod, and the screenshot is a race for the lead at Indianapolis in a online league race a week ago.
