AlexKIDD #1 Posted August 16, 2004 The other day i accidentally plugged in my jaguar with an nes adapter.I realze this was a stupid thing to do but it happens when you have too many systems hooked up at once. Is there any way to fix the jag now or is it broken for good?
SauceCaptain #2 Posted August 16, 2004 The same thing happened to one of my Jaguars. From what the good people on this board told me the answer is no, you can't fix a burnt out one very easily. After the time and money spent on parts it would probably be easier to just get a new one. That's as much as I know, hope it helps.
Trip_Cannon #3 Posted August 16, 2004 I've done that before too.. Once I caught a wiff of that burnt silicon I knew it was too late..
Gunstar #4 Posted August 17, 2004 It does depend what exactly burned out and how adept you are personally at repairing. Earlier this year I mistakenly plugged in the wron PS to my Jag dev. unit, but all I burned out was the power regulator chip, everything else survived. So, I bought a non-working Jaguar from GoAtari on the outside chance that something other than the power regulator chip was wrong with the unit. My luck held and I replaced the burned chip and it works fine again, though it was a bit sketchy for me as my experience with surface-mount technology was zip, I'm used to the old big components. But I figured It can't get any worse, that is, I couldn't break something that's already broken, so I am now somewhat experienced with surface mount chips, it's a lot more delicate work, but I did it! Although, years ago I burned out a Jag the same way (actually my friend did it) and that time it was a cascade effect and more components were burned out than could be reasonably fixed. The only way to know just how bad the damage is, is to test everything.
eggplant_casserole #5 Posted August 17, 2004 Usually it would be a regulator chip blown when the (correct) PSU is unregulated, although is there a regulator in the Jag? I really can't remember, been ages since I looked at the schematics! Don't use Nintendo PSUs by the way, they give out AC instead of DC!

Hyper_Eye #7 Posted August 19, 2004 I was thinking the same thing.
