Gregory DG #1 Posted August 21, 2004 Man, is there anything better the Mike Tyson's Punch Out for the NES? Or Super Punch Out for the SNES? Why aren't there any other boxing games as fun as these?
donkeykong1 #2 Posted August 21, 2004 I agree that Mike Tyson's Punch Out is one of the best if not the best.
JerseyDevil #3 Posted August 21, 2004 Man, is there anything better the Mike Tyson's Punch Out for the NES? Or Super Punch Out for the SNES? Why aren't there any other boxing games as fun as these? They are the best. I wish Nintendo would make another one for the cube.
vintagegamer89 #4 Posted August 21, 2004 Greatest Heavyweights for Genesis was pretty nice, no where near Tysons Punchout though.
NovaXpress #5 Posted August 21, 2004 Punch-Out isn't really a boxing game, it's a fighting game with a boxing motif. The techniques used don't really relate to the sport of boxing. As far as attempting an actual boxing experience, I still haven't found anything better than Greatest Heavyweights on the Genesis. And you only fight from the waist up! Boxing is too complicated to accurately represent in video form.
PaulEMoz #6 Posted August 21, 2004 Super Punch Out is so much fun. However, Fight Night 2004 is probably the best boxing game ever.
shep #7 Posted August 21, 2004 My opinion is biased but, Teleroboxer for the Virtual Boy. I mean come on, having the fists fly right at you was awesome.
shep #8 Posted August 21, 2004 Forgot to mention of course I am kidding and my vote goes for Super Punchout.
King Atari #9 Posted August 21, 2004 Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, easy. No other boxing game is as easy to pick up and play for hours on end. However, I do like Rocky for the SMS (it's really just a button masher, though).
Raijin Z #10 Posted August 21, 2004 Konami Mo-Cap Boxing. Why is it the best? Because if you're out of shape, you can't do well, just like in real life. The best part is, it makes for GREAT exercise. When I beat the third guy and couldn't play anymore (exhaustion), I knew I'd be in hell in the morning. Sure enough, I could barely move. Ugh! Ah well, STR + 1, AGI + 1, CON + 2. Nateo #11 Posted August 21, 2004 This is easy, Super Punch Out. I have played quite a few boxing games in my day, as I am a boxing fan, and nothin has been as fun as Super Punch Out. It's not as realistic as some boxing games, if ya want realistic go for the Knockout Kings. But for fun-factor, Super Punch Out wins hands down. Big Player #12 Posted August 21, 2004 Man, is there anything better the Mike Tyson's Punch Out for the NES? Or Super Punch Out for the SNES? Why aren't there any other boxing games as fun as these? I always preferred the arcade game Punch Out to the home versions. It is the last arcade game I had a total addiction to. But as NovaXpress said, it's not realistic simulation of boxing. I know they had some boxing strategy games in the 8-bit computer era. I never got to play any of them, but I sure wanted to. I believe SSI was going to release a boxing strategy game, but I don't think it ever got out. I played Computer Quarterback and Computer Baseball on my 800XL all the time back in high school. Gregory DG #13 Posted August 21, 2004 Anyone ever beat either Punch Out games? Every so often I fire them up on the emulators with the intention of beating them, but I never finish them...
donkeykong1 #14 Posted August 21, 2004 I play Mike's Punchout every now and then and always beat it. I usually have to beat Tyson by decision though.
IceCold #15 Posted August 22, 2004 I thought Mike Tyson's Punchout for NES was the best boxing game, but I also enjoy Rocky for Gamecube
NE146 #16 Posted August 22, 2004 Sure I beat Tyson regularly by tko (knocking down 3 times).. ever since I mastered him in the NES days I've never forgotten how. I'm also pretty darn good at Super Punchout with some times less than 7-ish seconds(?). But it's been a while... Incidentally, to answer your question, you might want to check out Wade Hixton's Counter Punch for the GBA which pays homage and is a tribute to Punchout and really isn't too bad at all (although obviously not as good as the original). Blackjack #17 Posted August 22, 2004 The original arcade version of Punch Out was the best. Back in the day, I finally did beat the Sandman. I still play this game all the time in Mame, but I'm not nearly as good anymore.
inextremis staple #18 Posted August 22, 2004 I always liked Punch Out for the NES. Brings back funny memories. Kinda off topic: I used to have a boxing game for the Apple IIgs and I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. I remember the box was white and had a glove punching through. I also think it was made for Intellivision as well. is

inextremis staple #20 Posted August 23, 2004 Thank you. I thought that's what it was when I saw the post about Fight Night 2004. Sounded familiar. is
video game addict #21 Posted August 23, 2004 Boxing is too complicated to accurately represent in video form. Maybe for this forum & time frame, but who knows what the future holds!
A2600 #22 Posted August 23, 2004 This is how I look at it My Vote goes to Mike Tysons Punch-Out!! (classic) And Knock Out Kings 2002 (modern-XBOX)
PaulEMoz #23 Posted August 23, 2004 Has anybody else here actually played Fight Night 2004?
Scooterb23 #24 Posted August 23, 2004 Not yet Paul...it is on my list of games to try, I have played the demo, and I believe I got my ass kicked by the ring card girl...
chrisbid #25 Posted August 23, 2004 NES Punchout!! is much better than the SNES game. But SNES punchout is pretty good. i cant believe there arent any honorable mentions for Activision Boxing.
