dinovelvet #2 Posted August 21, 2004 Glad I've got a PC strong enough to play it! Doom 3 delayed Probably a good thing. You don't need Halo 2, Goldeneye Rogue Agent and Doom 3 all out at the same time.
PuddWakkr #3 Posted August 21, 2004 Smart financial move. Why anyone would want to release a FPS anywhere near the time Halo 2 is coming out is beyond me. Take a few extra months and add some extra polish ( and some xbox exclusives can't hurt either ).
Mr.FoodMonster #4 Posted August 22, 2004 I think that in straight-out sales, HL2 will do better than Halo 2. Plus, the first HL was better then the first Halo =P
Raijin Z #5 Posted August 22, 2004 Shit, Halo's only marginally better than Quake 2. It's the new vanilla shooter.

msaeger #7 Posted August 22, 2004 I don't like any of them I hate FPSs
keilbaca #8 Posted August 22, 2004 Halo is not all that great, and Halo 2 isn't gonna be any better. Counter-Strike Source already won my vote after playing the beta, i'll be playing that for a long time... I got Halo for the PC due to all the hype, and i offically say that it blows, and I'm sure Halo 2 will be the same. Gameplay is way too slow, the only reason this got popular is because it was the first to have vehichles, and its not really that popular, like Raijin Z said, the sales were only medeocre(sp?). Besides, FSP on controllers blow, give me a mouse and keyboard and lookout.
Mock #9 Posted August 22, 2004 I love Halo...can't wait for Halo 2...I don't even like most FPS myself. I'd say Halo 2 is probably the main reason they are holding off...give people time to "want" another FPS and such...I'd do the same thing if i were calling the shots...and like you said...a few Xbox exclusives would be nice. Jasoco #10 Posted August 22, 2004 Part of me says "GOD DAMMIT!" But the other part is glad. It'll be less to spend my money on this big upcoming holiday season and as long as it comes out and doesn't suck, good. Let's hope it doesn't become another Duke Nukem Forever. Happy_Dude #11 Posted August 22, 2004 Looks like I won't be buying an xbox this year either Despite the pleas of fans, id Software has steadfastly offered only one answer when asked when the game would be out: "When it's done." So why a P.C release but no xbox ? It's basicaly the same platform
Raijin Z #12 Posted August 22, 2004 Because on PC you can patch patch patch patch patch patch patch all you want.
Jasoco #13 Posted August 22, 2004 Despite the pleas of fans, id Software has steadfastly offered only one answer when asked when the game would be out: "When it's done."I hope they're just making fun of Duke Nukem Forever with that line.

Jasoco #15 Posted August 26, 2004 I prefer Rocky Road shooters.
Adrian M #16 Posted August 26, 2004 So why a P.C release but no xbox ? It's basicaly the same platform They're similar but not the same. Vicarious Visions was porting Doom3 to the XBOX while Id was working on the PC version. As it was, the xbox version was due to ship a few months after the PC release anyway, so no big deal. +kisrael #17 Posted August 26, 2004 I wonder how stripped down the Xbox port is going to have to be, whether the age and relative cheapness of the Xbox will work against it, or if they'll be able to optimize the hell out of the Xbox's standardized hardware... Adrian M #18 Posted August 26, 2004 I wonder how stripped down the Xbox port is going to have to be, whether the age and relative cheapness of the Xbox will work against it, or if they'll be able to optimize the hell out of the Xbox's standardized hardware... Preliminary reviews are reporting that the game plays surprisingly well. Some graphical shortcuts were taken (heavy usage of bump-mapping), but overall the performance in the beta builds is good with some framerate chugging here and there. My opinion is that the game will run about as well as Chronicles of Riddick did.
figgler #19 Posted August 26, 2004 Why no Doom 3 for PS2 and GameCube? And don't tell me that they'd have to take too many shortcuts on lighting effects, content and such. Shit, if they brought a version of Doom to GBA, they can surely bring a version of Doom 3 to PS2. I'm not asking for a perfect conversion, but I think it's silly not too make something, even if it is dumbed down
Adrian M #20 Posted August 26, 2004 but I think it's silly not too make something, even if it is dumbed down People are already bitching about the XBOX version being "inferior" to the PC version and as we all know, the XBOX is the most powerful of all the consoles. And it's NOT silly not to support the other consoles. If people want to play DOOM3 badly enough, they'll play it on a PC or buy themselves an XBOX. Do you find it "silly" that no ports of Zelda or Mario exist for the PS2 or XBOX? Exclusivity is a GOOD thing.
figgler #21 Posted August 26, 2004 No I agree. I didn't realise that there was some sort of exclusivity deal going on behind the scenes. I had thought that it was only technology driven. You know, "Xbox is most powerful, so Doom 3 is only coming to Xbox." That would be silly to be sure. If Id has an arrangement with MS, that's cool enough. Seems strange though considering that the original Dooms were whored out to nearly every platform like no one's business.
PuddWakkr #22 Posted August 27, 2004 The id boys have been quoted as saying that the Xbox is their console of choice. I don't think that there is any iron clad deal between MS and id. Some developers just like to program for a certain piece of hardware, and seeing as how close the XB is to a PC id probably felt real comfortable with it. Also it doesn't hurt that it can do their game the most justice with the extra horsepower it has.
DeV0 #23 Posted August 27, 2004 I think i'll be getting d3 on every platform its released on. Im happy to wait for the box version if there is some exclusives and extra polish. As for halo, entry level fps for the newbie gamers. Not such a bad thing but also not such a milestone for gaming veterans. Halo2 will sell with name alone, it may be great?? HL? eeeeeeewwwwww Is it just me or does it feel like gordon has taken a dump in his pants? But with low expectations i might actually like hl2
+kisrael #24 Posted August 27, 2004 I got stuck in this stupid conveyor belt room in HL on PS2...the one with big machine looking things and convyor belts running around in a square inside. Couldn't find a way out to save my life...
Shannon #25 Posted August 27, 2004 From what I understand the pc version of Halo really sucked egg compared to the original anyways. Half-life is a great game until you get too the alien world. It's a shame they didn't release the two add-ons for the PS2. My only complaint about the PS2 version is there is a bug in the analog controller code so your basically stuck with one controller configuration.
