"someguy" beating you to a find at a sale...

Recommended Posts

I hate when I go to garage sales and ask if they have old games and they say "we had some nintendo stuff but some guy already got it" This has happend like 8 times in the past month to me. The worst was when the person said "I already sold the nintendo, super nintendo, nintendo 64 and xbox right when we opened this morning" Then she went on about how many games she had for the systems... it sucked.

heh he...

I fell your pain. However it is far worse to know which "someguy" it was...

Jacksonville, is filled with them... I think there are about 10 to 15 of us that are serious collectors. Each with our own style and haunts.

dang, there are only 3 other collectors here that I know. One is my firend which only collects snes, the other is mike who collects everything. Then david which I havent talked to all summer and I dont know, maybe he is the someguy. It just doesnt seem that there would be other collectors in my town of 12,000.

Theres nothing better than being that guy and finding stuff before anybody. My local pawn shop sells Super Nintendo games for $2 each, and I still remember the day I walked in, not expecting to find anything and picked up: Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, Zelda: Link to the Past, Castlevania 4, Super Mario Kart and Super Mario All Stars for $2 each. I made some decent money on E-Bay that week. :)

I missed a 2600 and about 40 games a couple months ago at a yard sale by 5 minutes. Later that evening, low and behold an ebay auction out of windsor for a 2600 with about 40 games!

At least they were all dirt common Atari and Activision titles so I didn't really miss out.

he he... There are at least three of us on this board alone... Firetiger, Godzilla and myself.. I've personally met at 4 others, and know of a couple more.

The only two on this board from my area are me and Lost Monkey. There are probably others. I know a couple of the EB employees are collectors. I think most of the stuff gets snatched up my ebay sellers.

Except that he probably swapped out all the rares he needed for commons before he put them on ebay. ;) Sorry, had to say it. :D

I feel your pain. About a month ago I passed up a huge garage sale I saw after work because I had to meet up with my wife and her family at a restaurant. I probably would have had time but I decided not to stop because it was on a busy road and turning would have been a pain in the butt.

The worst part of this story is that I'd stopped at this house when they had a garage sale the year before and asked if they had any video games. They told me they had some Atari stuff but that it was in storage. Anyway, (returning to the present) when I stopped in the next day and asked about video games I got the familiar old line "Oh yeah, we had a great big box of Atari stuff, sold it earlier today." :_( :_(

I've made all of my relatives and friends swear an oath to me, that if I missed out on something good, DO NOT TELL ME ABOUT IT. Also, if I'm not aware of something that would make me feel bad, DO NOT TELL ME ABOUT IT. I do NOT want to fucking hear about how I missed a free computer, and I do NOT want to hear about your kitten/puppy/monitor lizard that died. If you tell me, I will punch you in the solar plexus.

That sucks. I don't know where in Wisconsin you are located, but I can assure you that it wasn't me who found that stuff.

(got it all for $20 but ran out of money and my freind bought the boxed sega with bout 15 complete games for 13 bucks)

Actually we are considering forming a posse and going to someguy's house and taking back what is rightfully ours. Let us know if you want in. We have plans to wait for him at the local goodwill / flea markets and tieing him.

Afterwards we are going to force them to play combat for 48 hours straight with no rest :P

There are more...

AtariDave is from here and there is another guy who came to AA briefly.. he used to hang out at RGVC and he had a remote controlled VCS on a webcam... (but I can't remember his name!)

I know who you mean. He's a bit of a loser I'm told by some people I know who know him. He gets just about everything, including games, by mooching off of people. He had this whole thing on his website about how to scam A&P stores out of free food because of their "fresh or its free" policy.

I was in a cash convertors yesterday picking up a Namco Jakks joystick and a guy came in and overheard me talking to the cashier about how I collect atari and he mentioned he had one but it was broken or something. I thought, great, more competition. :D

I'm basicly the only collector in my area, althought I was verry mad when I came to a table seconds too late, and some guy walked out with about 20 n64 games that were a buck a peice.
