dkap01 #1 Posted August 24, 2004 Well I just got back from CGE2k4, where I unvailed my new Portable Jaguar. It has a PS1 screen, PS1 joystick and run's on 8 AA rechargeable's. The only thing I have left to do on it is to do the LED mod for the screen. So check it out here: http://www.portablesystems.bravepages.com Dave
SteveW #2 Posted August 24, 2004 Dang, that's nice! I can't imagine it running for very long, though. I remember an article with one of the Tramiels when the Jaguar was about to be introduced, where he discussed creating a portable version of the Jag. He said that if they used the same amount of batteries as the Lynx (6 AA batteries) it would only run for something like 45 minutes, if I remember the article correctly. dkap01 #3 Posted August 24, 2004 Its not to bad, with 8 AA rechargeable's and doing a LED mod to the screen you get about 1 1/2 hr. Because the Jaguar uses 9v @ 1.2a and the screen uses 7.2v at 1a. But if you do the LED mod to the screen you only use 350 mah . The batteries I use are AA 1.2 @ 2a x 8 = 9.6v @ 2a. What I still need to find is a power supply that is rated at 9v @ 2a. The one that comes with the Jaguar isn't enought to power both the Jag and screen.
V.R #4 Posted August 24, 2004 Hey that looks very sweet indeed. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those. Or perhaps I could make my own. Hmm! Portable jag- heaven.

justclaws #6 Posted August 24, 2004 Hello, Well I just got back from CGE2k4, where I unvailed my new Portable Jaguar. It has a PS1 screen, PS1 joystick and run's on 8 AA rechargeable's. The only thing I have left to do on it is to do the LED mod for the screen. Beyond words! That is a beautiful unit, I really applaud you on the appearance! :-) The only enhancement is to change it for a Pro-Controller in there, that would be nice, and the round buttons would match the joystick? However, with the standard buttons, it looks unmistakably, a Jaguar! So is it true you sold one? I'd love one myself. Gear up production! Cheers, Richard. Songbird #7 Posted August 24, 2004 Dave, it was great seeing you again and extremely cool to see the awesome portable Jaguar you had! Everyone at the Songbird booth flipped out when we saw AvP booting on that hardware. AFAIK he didn't sell it at the show, it's still a work in progress... in particular, the short battery life could use some work (hey, Dave, ever think about adding a power plug for the Lynx D-cell x6 battery pack?), but the general layout and functionality of the unit was superb. Nice work, and let me know when I can buy one.

Punisher5.0 #9 Posted August 24, 2004 Very impressive looking. I was making a portable Jaguar but got stuck on the case. I have no idea how to make a good looking case without using a router. I was getting 2 hours of playtime with my setup.

+davidcalgary29 #16 Posted August 28, 2004 Neat! Now if only someone would make a portable Atari 8-bit I'd be set... Tempest Why don't you buy one of those 65 XEP protos from Curt? You'd also think that it shouldn't be too hard to convert one of the more common 64 portables into an XE version, but I'd have no idea how to do this myself.
