birdie3 #1 Posted August 24, 2004 I recently acquired a Vectrex and it has little white paint dots covering the black plastic shell in some spots (what kind of a dolt paints a room with their Vectrex uncovered??). Does anyone know what would be the best way to remove this paint without damaging the plastic shell that housed the electronics?
joeybastard #2 Posted August 24, 2004 It's probably just latex paint. Dampen a rag with warm water and just wipe at them with a little pressure. They'll come off.
vintagegamer89 #3 Posted August 24, 2004 Whatever you do dont use paint thinner or a lacquer thinner. If you do you'll assume the risk of possibly melting some of the plastic and most definately discoloring it. I'd just try water first, then if that doesnt work try something along the lines of Fantastik or Lysol cleaner.
birdie3 #4 Posted August 24, 2004 OK. We'll give er' a try... Thanks, eh.
birdie3 #5 Posted August 24, 2004 Neither one worked worth beans. I wonder if it is paint or if it is something else.. Any other suggestions?
joeybastard #6 Posted August 24, 2004 Are the 'dots' raised from plastic surface or are they flush with it? If they are raised, I would try getting a plastic razor blade from an auto parts store and then try scraping them lightly. Plastic razor blades come in a pack of 5 for like$2. If they are flush, I'm out of ideas. That would seem like the plastic is actually discolored but I've never seen plastic go from black to white with discoloration. RMila75 #7 Posted August 24, 2004 You can try Goo Gone. I got paint spatter of my kitchen floor with that stuff. Just don't rub it on any plastic that has a colored coating "painted" over the top of it. I rubbed a bit of the silver color off an old boom box that way. gdement #8 Posted August 25, 2004 I like using rubbing alcohol to clean consoles, but I did accidentally rub off some lettering on a NES once, so its not completely safe. Not sure it would work on whatever you're dealing with either.
glitch #9 Posted August 25, 2004 It must be a vectrex thing. Mine has small white paint splatters on it too. What ever you do DO NOT use OOPs or Goof Off or any paint thinners. I tried OOPs on mine and it ate away the platic itself. Looks like a cigarette burn now in the spot that I tried it.[/i]
Famicoman #10 Posted August 30, 2004 Perhaps Nail Polish remover?
