Cousin Vinnie #1 Posted August 26, 2004 I was playing I-Ninja for a review and a part of the game reminded me of Perfect Dark's last stage. I started to fondly recall that game & Goldeneye and it dawned on me that Goldeneye really had some awesome final stages. What do you freaks think is the coolest last stage/boss of them all? Mine is the 9th hole of Ninja Golf. Just kidding. Mine probably is the Cradle in Goldeneye, but the bonus stages were awesome as well. Starfox 64's last stage gave me vertigo. That was pretty awesome back in the day. Cousin Vinnie
Raijin Z #2 Posted August 26, 2004 Hmm.... Shatterhand's last stage was sufficiently epic... boss too. Doom 3's was a huge letdown... after the initial HOLY SHIT wore off. Ooh, I got kicked into the lava for the eightieth time. 9_9

figgler #4 Posted August 26, 2004 Kudos to the final bosses in Super C, Ninja Gaiden and Super Metroid. My favourtie ever though, is the final battle between Link and Ganondorf in Wind Waker. Especially the final blow..
gdement #5 Posted August 26, 2004 Actually, I think the most exciting moment fighting a final boss I ever had was fighting Ganon at the end of the first Zelda.
Adrian M #6 Posted August 26, 2004 Hmm.... Shatterhand's last stage was sufficiently epic... boss too. Yes indeed! Great underappreciated little gem on the NES. As for me, the greatest boss battle/ending has to be Bionic Commando for the NES. Just when you think you're done, there's more to be done! Fight a reincarnated Hitler, then his full screen Doomsday machine, and to top it all off you need to get the hell out of the base before it blows up. And the ending was pretty sweet too! Bivotar #7 Posted August 26, 2004 A few nods to Zelda here, and I'd probably have to add one too, but for Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time. The final battle with Gannon was almost cinematic. After you FINALLY beat him, you have to grab the princess and get the hell out of the tower as it crumbles down around you. My heart was pumping and hands sweating the whole time. It truly felt like I accomplished something after beating that game.

Ooh, I got kicked into the lava for the eightieth time. 9_9 I absolutely loved Shatterhand. I bought that game for like $20 when stores were starting to clear out the NES stuff. The last stage is awesome, but some of the earlier bosses are pretty cool as well. I still fire it up now and then. I only wished they made a sequel. RMila75 #9 Posted August 26, 2004 Shatterhand was certainly a better than average hand-to-hand combat game for the NES. Nice graphics and music and cool effects for its time. As for bosses, I can't say this is a "best boss", but the most memorable boss for me was the giant turtle-thing from level one of Contra III. That was my first 16-bit game I ever owned and when I got to that boss, I was blown away. It seems so quaint now, but it felt great the first time I killed that beast. SteveW #10 Posted August 26, 2004 The most frustrating boss I can recall ever going against, for me, would be De Rol Le from Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast. That bastard just wouldn't die! I got killed time and time again, and cussing at the top of my lungs at the screen. I'd gotten to that point with my character being at a pretty low level. It taught me to play the side missions first and level up as much as possible before going against the boss. I'd leveled up so much for the next boss in the Mines, it just took 5 minutes to kill it, without hardly losing any health.
Mr.FoodMonster #11 Posted August 26, 2004 I love the boss stages in all of the Metal Slug games. At the arcade it usually takes a few credits to beat, but they are just so damn fun!
liveinabin #12 Posted August 26, 2004 Some of the bosses in Panzer Dragoon Zwei,Nights and Burning Rangers were awesome (hmm, all Saturn games, wierd). I don't usually like bosses, I just hate them and want them to die so I can move on...which, I guess, is the point
sigma #13 Posted August 26, 2004 I'll just go with one and say Super Metroid. The last metroid swooping down on Mother Brain and then giving you the special beam with the race from Zebes afterwards (of course, I always have to stop and rescue the animals ) is truly epic. Raijin Z #14 Posted August 26, 2004 Alternately, Metroid Prime's last area and the Protoform boss BLOW.
sigma #15 Posted August 26, 2004 yes, after the Omega Pirate, Meta Ridley and Metroid Prime are f'in pathetic.

The modified turtle boss in PS2's Contra Shattered Soldier is especially disturbing... I'd have to say the best boss I've ever played has to be the final showdown in arcade Strider. It was the most frustrating thing EVER! Strider did feature a lot of great end of level bosses, but it was the last one that killed me... over and over again... The 8th Passenger #18 Posted August 27, 2004 My favourtie ever though, is the final battle between Link and Ganondorf in Wind Waker. Especially the final blow.. Best ending ever, in my opinion. That final blow literally made me gasp...powerful stuff. I've always loved the final of Super Metroid, when the confused Metroid saves Samus so she can finish off the Mother Brain. I thought the presentation of Metroid Prime was phenomenal (king of reminded me of the introduction of the Alien Queen in Aliens), but the creature itself wasn't as cool as I had hoped for. Junk_supermarket #20 Posted August 27, 2004 probably the boss that i will always remember would be the final boss in mystic quest legend that took me forevfer and a day to beat when i was a kid. don't ask me why but there you have it
DeV0 #21 Posted August 27, 2004 ooo, my favourite (maybe not the best) is the boss stage for doom 2. It took me forever to get it right and was freaky for its time. To the best of my knowledge it the only boss in any game that tells you that you must kill one of the programmers to finish the game. I remember playing the garbled voice backwards and im sure it says "to finish the game you must kill me, john romero" And im sure his head is on a stake if you do the walk through walls cheat. So extra freaky, extra fun with extra gib factors. Yep, doom

Its not easy, Once u pickup all the items in the small room you start in warp to the boss. If you look directly towards th middle you can see a small hole in the middle abot 3/4 of the way up. Now each platform moves up and down. The trick is to go to the bottom an hit the switch, the platform will rise, repeat for the second and 3rd platform. I cant remember but i thik its the 4th patform? that you need to be on while its rising to get a clear shot through the hole. u are shooting at john romero's head. Its a bitch but easier with mlook which you can get from one of the many patched open gl dooms like doom legacy. Have fun,! You'll be up all night but the satisfaction is worth the effort
Han #24 Posted August 27, 2004 When I was playing through Doom 2 on the Ultra-violence level, I was having some problems with level 30. About a zillion monsters was out to get me. Just when I was firing the last rocket at the boss a monster killed me. And just as I fell down, I saw the last rocket explode right in the head of the boss. I was just about to say something nasty, when I saw the "you have completed the game" text appear on the screen. I had actually completed the game even if I was dead.
