Just discovered something about myself and the systems I buy

Recommended Posts

This may be the goofiest topic ever here, but I just realized why I have always followed the 2nd and 3rd place video game systems. (Atari 7800, Atari Lynx, Turbographix, N64, Gamecube) I'd like to know if any of you think the same way as me, or if I'm just a goof.

Since I don't have time or the money to really investigate, rent and buy tons of games, I like systems with a smaller library because their quality games are easier to keep up with. I also wait at least a year or so to buy a system b/c I like to pick up really cheap games and hardware... and 3rd place companies are the cheapest.

Am I alone in thinking that way?

No you are not alone. Some people prefer to get games from some of the off beat systems because of the originality of games. The more mainstream systems usually have more mainstream games and not as many quirky fun titles.

Granted that it is a little harder to find games for (especially if the system has been discontinued) but some people like the pursuit of new games for their system. I think that is part of the fun of collecting classic video games items because finding games takes a bit of luck and patience.

For me, it's also about supporting the underdog. That's why I bought the Atari 7800, the Lynx, the Nuon, the GameCube, the N-Gage QD, etc. etc.

Aside from the fact that I tend to buy them all (just my fascination with technology) I agree with your points.

Thing is game pricing is at a premium right now so alot of my focus has shifted to modern day consoles.
