figgler #1 Posted August 30, 2004 3 Cheers for Hudson! They've been one of my favourites since I was a little kid, first with Adventure Island, then Princess Tomato. Well this weekend I just discovered the greatness of Xexyz. What a fantastic and original game this is. A nice blend of Gradius and Kid Icarus with that distinct Hudson flavour. I had no idea this game had so much to it - lots of different vehicles, weapons, and big cool looking bosses. I'm hooked now until the end, and can safely recommend this to any NES players Who else is at AA is a Hudson fan?
Adrian M #2 Posted August 30, 2004 I'm a fan of Hudson's works, but not as a result of their meager offerings on the NES. No sir, I respect Hudson for their PC Engine platform as well as the stellar games library. 16-bit gaming at its finest!
Bratwurst #3 Posted August 30, 2004 Hudson's offerings on the NES were pretty pitiful (with the exception of a few exclusives like Xexyz) but I like their TG-16 stuff. Mostly because they were in competition indirectly with the Famicom due to their dedicated support of the PC Engine. They practically carried that system on their back. New Adventure Island (the TG16 port) is one of my favorite games, the rest of the Island games I find to be trash. It's the perfect meld of graphics, audio and level layout to keep things interesting.
figgler #4 Posted August 30, 2004 Hudson's SNES games were also nothing to sneeze at. Super Bomberman made 4 player console gaming awesome and Super Adventure Island to this day has some of the best video game music I've ever heard
Raijin Z #5 Posted August 30, 2004 They made one of the worst games of all time, Milon's Secret Castle. Once you put that behind you, Hudson is the bee's knees.
Adrian M #6 Posted August 30, 2004 They made one of the worst games of all time, Milon's Secret Castle. Once you put that behind you, Hudson is the bee's knees. WTF??? That was a BRILLIANT game! Honestly! One of the toughest NES games I've ever played, but can proudly claim that I've finished....how I long for a true sequel to that classic title. Malc74 #7 Posted August 31, 2004 The only Hudson games I've really played are the ones they wrote for the Sinclair Spectrum, including the proto-versions of Bomberman (Eric & the Floaters) and Pang (Bubble Buster). Quite how they were roped into writing Speccy games I don't know, but they're pretty impressive for the time (1983/4). Oh yeah, and does anyone remember a Hudson game called Yo, Joe! for the PC? It was a brilliant platform game from about 1993, but was a bit of a dismal failure as far as I can remember (everyone bought Zool instead...ugh!) Awesome game, but you have to really work to get into it. Once you get that "I WILL beat this game" mentality, it's a lot of fun.
Raijin Z #9 Posted August 31, 2004 Oh I've beaten it... The journey was equally as shitty as the ending. =_=
nester #10 Posted August 31, 2004 I just wish that the Turbo Duo would have been more popular so I could actually afford to get one. I guess right now, it is my most wanted system, but I'll probably never get one. I've never played any of the games, but they sure do look neat! My Nintendo Hudson gamse are Mendel Palace and the Adventures of Dino-Riki, both of which are quite good.
Cootster #11 Posted August 31, 2004 Didn't they actually code every TG-16 game, kind of like how the BSR programmed every INTV game? Not sure about the FMV CD titles, though. Not to mention, Mario Party rocks, if you're into that. And why is MSC the worst game ever to anybody? Granted, the ending sucks, but aside from that, it's quite good. And there should be a sequel. Wouldn't mind having a modern Bonk game on the Cube, either . . .
Adrian M #12 Posted August 31, 2004 Didn't they actually code every TG-16 game, kind of like how the BSR programmed every INTV game? Not sure about the FMV CD titles, though. No. Other companies did make games for the PCE and TG platforms. Taito, Face, Capcom, and others all made games for the platform. In fact, Working Designs got their start on the TG side by porting some of the Japanese titles over before they sold out and went to Sega (and then Sony). And why is MSC the worst game ever to anybody? Granted, the ending sucks, but aside from that, it's quite good. Who knows. The difficulty and cutesy graphics may have turned some off (there's nothing fruitier than having a boy clown who shoots magical bubbles as your main character) and the game did start out with some rather vague directions as to how one had to proceed. But after you figured it all out and got past the well, the game really began to shine. And there should be a sequel. Amen to that.
figgler #13 Posted September 1, 2004 Cheers to anyone else who has actually finished Milon. This is no small feat at all. Good show chaps! There is a modern Bonk game for Cube - a remake anyway. 'Course you'll need to import it, but still pretty cool. They did this with the first Adventure Island and something else too. Same games, enhanced graphics. Also, does anyone remember that Hudson made controller for NES that you could plug headphones into?

Seems like a natural, although the US would almost certainly not get it either. . .
The 8th Passenger #15 Posted September 1, 2004 Funny...I saw "Hudson" and immediately thought of Milon's Secret Castle. Great game, even though I was always terrible at it. Might be time to find another copy and see how badly I can do. John
figgler #16 Posted September 1, 2004 And there should be a sequel. Amen to that. There is, for GB of course. At least I assume it's a sequel, though perhaps just a port. Anyone know?
Adrian M #17 Posted September 1, 2004 Also, does anyone remember that Hudson made controller for NES that you could plug headphones into? I do! I do! The Sansui Joycard SSS! Best NES controller ever, aside from the fact that it had the "simulated stereo" effect too! Resembles the design of the original Famicom pads and has THE BEST d-pad and buttons out of all the third party NES controllers.
