wapchimp #1 Posted September 2, 2004 I think this would be a cool game to have. There are a few java games for cell phones floating about. So can anyone make a lynx version
wapchimp #2 Posted September 3, 2004 something like this. Comlynxed with 4 players would be wicked
wapchimp #3 Posted September 3, 2004 I have even designed the cart lable
Jim Leek #4 Posted September 3, 2004 Good idea, go for it. Aside from the AI and the comlynx code, Tron is about the simplest game to write in the world. You don't even have to clear the screen buffer between frames if you don't want to.
wapchimp #5 Posted September 3, 2004 Thanks Jim. One problem. I can't programme. I just think of good game ports & ideas. I need someone to make it for the lynx
Jim Leek #6 Posted September 3, 2004 Inability to program is not a permenent state. Programming is a skill, and can be learned. I programmed a snake/tron game in a mix of x86 assembler and Pascal back when I first learned to program. All you need to do is take a C class at your local community college (or whatever) to get up to speed on basic programming concepts, and then start going at the Lynx. Not easy, but there's a shortage of programmers in the world. we could use another.

Rocko #8 Posted September 4, 2004 OK I really want this game and I have even designed a better cart label. look up! If that doesnt work, go to your local book store and get a C book! Anyway, I think it would be a great idea.
Songbird #9 Posted September 5, 2004 Actually, if you dug up REALLY old posts from me (think 8+ years ago), you'd see that "Star Cycles" was one of my first tentative game concepts I wanted to implement. Basically four players, overhead light cycles, powerups, obstacles, you get the idea. I still think it's a cool concept, it's just finding free time that's hard. wapchimp #10 Posted September 5, 2004 Carl that sounds exactly what I had in mind. If you make it. I'll be the first in the queue
Jim Leek #11 Posted September 5, 2004 Carl, that brings up a question I have. How does one test Comlynx code? Do you just use 4 Lynxes and 4 eprom carts? Handy seems to support some comlynxing over TCP/IP but it doesn't work right. (I guess) What do you do?
Songbird #12 Posted September 6, 2004 In the past, we've done most of the testing with just EPROM carts and real Lynxes. I haven't ever tried the comlynx feature on Handy, though maybe some day I will. But, on Champ Rally, for example, a Lynx fan named Tom Legare actually did the 4-player Champ Rally testing after the game shipped! We simply didn't have enough stuff (and players) all in one spot to do proper testing ahead of time. Fortunately it all worked as expected.
wapchimp #13 Posted September 6, 2004 Found a mention of it here http://www.unspacy.demon.co.uk/games/lynx/lynx.html
