Does Meltdown and Targ rom files have been released ?

 

I read at Vintage gaming network they were released, but I can't find them to download on the web...

 

If someone has got a link (or wanted to email them directly to me), his help is welcome

Yes, both have been released by Digital Press last week. Just search the forum.

 

And maybe you better ignore the unfortunate circumstances of the Meltdown release.

Cool!   Targ is especially fun...

 

I tried both Targ and Universal Chaos tonight .. and I found it interesting that in UC there is a hunter killer that pops out of a door and hunts your player down faster than the Targ ships do. So these roms do not have the same exact gameplay. I think that UC is a better challenge.

 

I have never played arcade Targ .. but I have played John Dondzila's Trakkers (Vectopia cart) which does have the hunter killer popping up frequently.

Got into the Universal Chaos version of Targ this afternoon. High score: 26,410! What a great game!

Unfortunately, TARG crashes for me often when I shoot the last enemy on the stage.

UC is one of the best games ever made for the 2600. I played Targ in the arcades and the translation is excellent.

 

Exidy quickly followed up Targ with a sequel called Spectar. The only real difference was the addition of dot-munching to the maze. Apparently Exidy saw Pac-Man and rushed out a revision.

 

Coleco licensed the rights to Spectar. Like 90% of their announced products, it was just vaporware. How did CBS end up with Targ anyway? That was the only non-Midway game that they licensed wasn't it?

Targ is really fun, but it crashes too often. I've only seen it crash when touching enemies.

I've never had any kind of crash on Universal Chaos. I never tried out the Targ ROM but it is apparently missing the finishing touches.

 

Targ must have been unfinished, but was it polished up by CBS or by Telegames? Have we ever seen a 2600 game started by one company and finished by another?
