SCreen shots are up

Recommended Posts

Nice, but a couple of questions.

Where are you in shots 2 and 3?

And what is going on there?

Why doesn't your little guy have arms?

Is that a real score in shot 1? If so, why is the score equal to the steps?

You're doing some great stuff. Feel free to contact me via email anytime. I'd love to help as much as I can, despite the fact that I know nothing about the programming aspect. I can help with gameplay and such. I can also ask a lot of annoying questions (although you probably already know that)

In shots 2 and 3 im the little dude inside the circles. (which will be removed when finished).

Why dont he have arms ( would you blieve he droped his collection on himself reaching for a rare atari game and the doctors couldnt save his arms so now he has show cathcers?????) any takers on this lie??

no seriously i couldnt have worked it in . but i did my best. one of those editiorial choices.

in the owners manual it explains it but every step is worth 1 point

the the warps are worth 15 and carts by what rarity they are thats the story on that. any other questions

Yeah,

no big on the arms thing. Just goofin' with ya.

In shots 2 and 3, what I meant was where in the game are you? In a house? In a room in a house? All I see is grey.

How do you find carts? Do you just stumble over them or can you spot them? Is there a strategy to finding rare vs. common or is it just luck?

If steps are part of the score, how are you going to divide them back up for the ratings?

(points/steps?)

stan the atari man,

yoru giving out all my secrets here. shots 2 and 3are from 2 sepreate houses 1 room house well in the game it wont be taht easy to find them so you will need to stumple to find them and yes there is a stratagy in finding the rare carts to the commons( or even the (-) negitive point carts) but i cant say what that is or youll bedone to easy.

now for the rating i was thinking points/steps but i dont knwo ifthats still fair

OOOOOO! Don't give anything away! I just wanted to make sure that the game was more than just getting lucky and stumbing onto some rare carts (but the more I think about it, that's kind of how it is in the real "wild." Might not be too bad of an idea) Finding the right balance of lucking into carts and knowing where to look might be the ticket.

Will there be more detail to the inside of the house? How much detail can you pack in?

I still have that original screen shot you made when you were going to do this for the 2600. I liked how you wanted to track each type of cart found. Anyway you can do that in this one? Might help you solve your rating dilemna?

I just e-mailed you some other stuff. I won't repeat it here, so you can keep stuff more secret. This is kind of a public forum!

I'm still having trouble figuring out what's going on in these screen shots... From what I can tell, you walk into someone's house (???) and walk around until you find a cartridge. I'm guessing that the circles are actually where the cartridge is found, and that you've put those in simply so you don't just stumble around in a screen of grey.

Are these cartridges going to be hidden behind couches and TV's and such? (ala Sneak 'n' Peak) I sure hope you don't plan on making us walk randomly through grey houses until we hit something.

Looks like a good work in progress... but I'm guess it'll be quite a while before this game is finished.

And here's some idea's I'll throw out for the game. How/if you want to add them in is all up to you (Some of this might be a little excessive for a 2600 game):

-- Something bad... for example, Sumguy comes up and grabs a cartridge you were about to find, or you lose a cartridge down a sewer (Yeah, this happens a lot), or you stumble over huge piles of Pac-man cartridges or something

-- Money and thrift stores/flea markets: run into these and buy/sell games somehow? Perhaps allow trading with other people on the same hunt.

-- eBay: Lose your money and never get the game because it was "lost" in the mail (I'm kidding about that part)

Good luck!

lol i like that ebay thing . but im not sure exactly how much of what your saying will be possible ( since im just starting out ) . trust me i was originally thinking that having all those circles become the grey or the backround and let you go walking aimlessly till you found a cart.

ZERO heres what i can use if you can supply the brains on this how do i set up a cart then after you step on it and get the points it goes away you exit the house and it resets ( ONLY WHEN YOU WALK INTO ANOTHE HOUSE).

if i can learn how to do this i will do it. but for as doing a couch or TVstand i dont think i have the graphics to do that. until i learn everythign about QBASIC and Atari Basic the ideas of buy/sell/trade may need to wait( but i smell a part 2 in the works hehe)but keep coming up with ideas ZERO draw a pic of what you are talkign abotu so i can follow along better

You should make the game so that at the end, you have to fight sumguy like Raccoonlad and I once did! That would be awsome! You could give the game a little more RPG type elements and you could name the game "Mad Atarian: Search for the Protos!" Yeah, and you could have the protos include The Incredible Hulk and Turbo!

Whew, I'm tired of giving ideas.

I'm not sure what you mean here... do you want the cartridges in a house to disappear after you pick them up... but then reappear after you go into another house? I don't quite get why you'd want to do that...

Well, you don't need to have a picture-perfect room or anything. Not even as good looking as Sneak 'n' Peak. Just have some sprites thrown around the screen that look like a TV or a bed or whatever, and when you walk over some of them, you might find a cartridge. It would be a little more exciting than just running around a grey background...

when i get a cart im thinking maybe it should disapear and when walk out of the house and back in its gone ( so you dont cheat by getting 50pt carts like crazy. ) but maybe you can get a cart leave the house enter another house and when you get another cart the other house resets. makes any moresense. .

im not quite sure what you meant on the other thing are you meaning makeing some objects in the room that makes it look more like a house instead of a grey floor

The problem with that is that you could then just go between two different houses and keep getting the same stuff over and over again... I think the best way would be for it to never reset. But wether this would work on not depends on how big the game is. If there were only a dozen houses in the game, it might be over pretty fast.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. After all, I don't leave my cartridges lying out in the middle of the floor... they're stacked up on shelves, or sitting in my VCS.

i only have 10 houses to work with . but im sure it will be more interesting ill see if i can add to the game but im not sure i can build squares adn rectagles ( on QBASIC) cause square is seen as a math problem so that is the trouble im having.

well im still working on a SECRET BONUS that might be worth a contest for ( maybe )

i forgot how i built all the men in the game ive been tring square but it thinks its a math problem so maybe its line.

for as a price im still thinking about it im think 40.00 will be about what ill end up it costing. i need to see what labels boxes and manuals gonna cost to produce and then my labor in programming this. go from there

The square function is probably trying to do x^2 or something. Look for the box function or a rectangle function, I'm sure it'll be in there.

As for your game, you should try thinking of a way for the computer to randomly generate a neighborhood. That way you wouldn't have to worry about being limited to 10 houses, just move to the next screen and there's a different house with different stuff in it. This may sound complicated, but random numbers are actually quite easy (Not so easy on the VCS though I'd imagine...). The only problem I see with this is if you try to go backwards through the game, and stuff you'd already got was somehow re-randomized.

Hey ZERO

yea its like a grid with each block with ability to have 1 house per block , for as your idea onhaving tv's and beds in the houses i think it will wait for the MAD ATARIAN 2 AMN i missed that game. it will be an updated and newly challenged version of this game somethign new and different for you. but for now i think i should keep this rather simple so many people can get a feel for it .
