Trip_Cannon #1 Posted September 14, 2004 I remember when the first Duke Nukem 3D came out. That had to be my favorite game on the PC for the longest time. That and Magic Carpet.... Does anybody know when Duke Nukem Forever is coming out? Or how about a progress report or something?
Raijin Z #2 Posted September 14, 2004 It's never coming out, it is vaporware.

People waited 10 years for a sequel to Doom - a first generation 3d shooter. It seems to be doing pretty good.
cryptik76 #11 Posted September 14, 2004 People waited 10 years for a sequel to Doom - a first generation 3d shooter. It seems to be doing pretty good. Except id Software didn't announce Doom 3 back in 1997. They announced it in, what, 2001? Also, since Duke Nukem Forever was announced, id Software created Quake II, Quake III Arena, and Doom 3. Monolith (which came out of 3D Realms after Duke Nukem 3D and finished the original Blood, which started at 3D Realms) created their own engine (Lithtech), and with it created Shogo, Blood II, No One Lives Forever 1 & 2, Aliens vs. Predator 2, and Tron 2.0 in the time since Duke Nukem Forever was announced. Duke Nukem Forever has been using licensed engines (first Quake II and then Unreal, I think, and who knows what now), and from all indications seems to be a run-of-the-mill first-person shooter with some rail-shooter segments. We've had nothing to show for it except for some screenshots and a trailer from E3 2000. There is no reason why it should be taking this long.
Gregory DG #12 Posted September 14, 2004 Man, I'd love a new Duke game. But I've decided it's a game that'll never make it out. I hope I'm wrong about that, but it doesn't look good.
sega saturn x #13 Posted September 14, 2004 Looks like duke is dead hes probably playing poker with gex in video game heaven.
moycon #14 Posted September 14, 2004 Lets ask this.... If it DID get released. Like lets say before the end of the year....Would you seek out a copy? I would. I've always loved those games. Although I like the 1st person perspective better than the 3rd.
sega saturn x #15 Posted September 14, 2004 If the game did come out it would just get crushed by doom halo and half life you know its true.
Mr.FoodMonster #16 Posted September 14, 2004 And Half Life 2 would be on top of the FPS heap.
Rocko #17 Posted September 14, 2004 I actually hope its coming out. Yeah, halo 2 and Doom 3 will overshadow it... but I want something that is not mainstream (you know, a great game that no one knows about...)

Avid Fan #21 Posted September 15, 2004 Just gimme an absolutely perfect port of the original Duke 3D (VESA graphics), on a newer console, and I'll be happy. And throw in Split Screen deathmatch. Those were the days when I'd play deathmatch Duke3D VIA modem back in

AtariDude #23 Posted September 15, 2004 Other than the mock 2600 cartridge, I don't think we will ever see a Duke Nukem Forever game ever released. It would be an embarrassment at best.

Although I like the 1st person perspective better than the 3rd. Personally, I would be very interested in the game. The E3 trailer from a few years ago looked very cool. However, I think most people, even those who have been looking forward to it for all these years, would wait for reviews. Because it's not uncommon for a highly-anticipated game to be very late and turn out to be bug-ridden, dated, and disappointing. Look at Daikatana and Battlecruiser 3000 AD. But, yeah, I would be very interested.

Those were the days when I'd play deathmatch Duke3D VIA modem back in 97 Hehehehe, those were fun times. It seemed pretty fresh and exciting when it came out. We'd have 3-4 players going at it in deathmatch and just have a BLAST. I can still visualize areas of that game very well and am sure if I were to sit back down to it that it would all come flooding back. It was fun to get that jetpack and fly way the hell up in the sky and rain down death from above on the fools running down the streets.
