Java Toy: Cosmic Ark Swarm

Recommended Posts

So for my website kisrael.com I made up a little tribute to Cosmic Ark and my past infantuation with its little beasties: Cosmic Ark Swarm....dozens and dozens of each of the 7 types of beasties from that game running around a 2D wildlife preserve...they're skittish of the mouse because it has a tractor beam, press the button to vacuum 'em up and make them stick to the mouse...

Anyway, I like it and find it a little amusing..

Well, here's one or two I've made:

It's a neat free toolkit called "Processing" that makes it easy to write Flash-like stuff in Java...

http://processing.org/ is the site, and it has a lot more (and more impressive) little toys and demos.

http://processing.org/learning/examples/ki...netic_type.html is a very cool one

Actually I wonder if there could be a simple game made out of this. Capturing exactly 2 of the same type is kinda difficult...maybe having to do that? (Or be sexist and color-code 'em blue and pink.) and drop 'em off in the "breeding area"...or maybe just vacuum 'em all up in a given time...Not sure how much I should give per thing though.

Another idea might be to go with fewer beasties, and redo the setup from Cosmic Ark...except the person is controlling the laser cannons against tons of the little Cosmic Ark saucers...

Just some thoughts.
