Colecovision Champ Keypad Question

Recommended Posts

Does the Champ Keypad for the Colecovision only support one button controllers. I remeber reading this, but I have a prostick 3 specifically for the Colecovision. Would the Champ keypad work with this and support both buttons? I don't have any two button Colecovision games to test this combination on.

The Champ Keypad does support 2 button controllers. I use mine with a Super Champ joystick by Championship Electronics

Then that must not be the keypad I have, because I traced the circuitry of mine and it it specifically does not pass through the second button. Does your keypad actually say "Champ" (or have any identifying marks) anywhere on the keypad itself?

Bruce - Now I don't know. Your response coupled with the fact that I tried my 2 button Colecovision Newport stick with the Champ adaptor (mine says "Champ" on the adaptor) and the two buttons do NOT work. Hmmm!

im almost positive that the champ keypad does not pass the second fire button.

it's been a while since i used it, but i would bet on it.

maybe if you have a joystick designed to be used with it...made by the same company..?

but i kinda doubt it

I thought a Newport joystick and the Newport keypad (isn't the Champ made by Newport) would work, but the Champ keypad allows one button fire only as far as I can tell. I tried this combo using Looping and one button only. By the way, I'm terrible at Looping - does anyone else run into everything. and die :).
