chrishicks #1 Posted September 21, 2004 I was wondering which console has the best port of q-bert? my wife loves this game so I wanted to get her the best version of this out. I think I have the NES cart around here somewhere but is that the best version?
vintagegamer89 #2 Posted September 21, 2004 NES or Colecovision in my opinion
joeybastard #3 Posted September 21, 2004 Most of the home versions that I've played were decent at least. The CV version is excellent as well as the C64 version. The 5200 version is pretty good too. I like the 2600 version just fine too. I have never played it on the NES. Q*bert's Qubes on the CV is one of my favorite games of all time.
Nateo #5 Posted September 21, 2004 I'll third the CV version and second the NES version, although the NES version does have different music the gameplay and look of the game is very faithful to the arcade game. Q*Bert is one of my all-time favorite games
Cootster #6 Posted September 21, 2004 Colecovision, easily . . . The O2 is actually my #2 choice, ugly, but great play . . . Qbert 3 on the SNES was a really great update, too. Insanely hard after a while, though.
goatdan #7 Posted September 21, 2004 I would definitely second the opinion of the SNES game. The Dreamcast game isn't that bad either. As for straight up arcade, personally I still lean toward my 2600... but that is probably because I played the heck out of that game on that system for the last 20 or so years. It is also good on the NES and Colecovision.
~llama #8 Posted September 21, 2004 the NES has the nearest-to-arcade graphics of the versions ive played (CV, NES, VCS, arcade) but the music is different... i still prefer the NES version though.

Vic George 2K3 #10 Posted September 21, 2004 NES version is a little too fast.
chrisbid #11 Posted September 21, 2004 the NES version has continues and an ending
Rockin' Kat #12 Posted September 21, 2004 Personally, I like playing it on Commodore64.
Tempest #13 Posted September 21, 2004 I grew up with the 8-bit version, so I'm kind of partial to that one. However I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the O2 plays a mean game of Q*Bert. It's worth checking out. Tempest
2600Lives #14 Posted September 21, 2004 The Atari 800 version is pretty darn good as well, but I'll give my vote to the Colecovision as THE definitave version of Q-Bert on a home console. The NES version is fun, but the ending and stuff just blows my mind. That's like porting Yar's Revenge over and giving it an ending! "Congratulations, you won!" BAH! Classic Pac #15 Posted September 21, 2004 Call me a purest I still like the arcade version best, early home version I guess the NES one is OK. But still is the over all best home version was the one for the PS 1. I play that one the most.
Cap5750 #16 Posted September 21, 2004 I enjoy the PC version.....on MAME. Cap
Mad Scientist #17 Posted September 21, 2004 TI-99/4A. I enjoyed it quite a bit as a kid. To be fair, I haven't played several of the other versions mentioned. Did any other versions require you to rotate your controller 1/8 turn for your controller and screen alignment to propertly correspond? I'm not sure why this was necessary, since even the "four contact" controllers (like the 2600's and the TI's) were capable of 8-way movement when held normally... -Eric
Jess Ragan #18 Posted September 22, 2004 Q*Bert 3 on the Super NES is the best game in the series, hands down. Oh wait, Q*Bert doesn't have hands. Er... in that case, it's the best, long droopy noses down. Seriously, though, Q*Bert 3 has fantastic backgrounds that give it even more of a psychadelic atmosphere than the previous games. There are more enemies and deeper gameplay, too. The control isn't quite perfect- like most Q*Bert games on home consoles, you've got to use the cardinal directions to guide Q*Bert to each block, so it can be confusing. Even with that flaw, the game's tons of fun to play and has a metric ton of personality. Give it a try! JR
