ElephantStyle #3 Posted September 21, 2004 Big demos are common nowadays. Where have you been?
Godzilla #4 Posted September 21, 2004 Yea, but ~500 megabytes? I've seen some that creep close to 300, but I haven't seen any in the 500 range. I guess 'where have I been' is accurate :-)
Godzilla #5 Posted September 21, 2004 damn lack of edit :-) I been playing atari 2600 of course. and most of those are ~5kb not 500,000 kb :-)
Raijin Z #6 Posted September 21, 2004 Feh! Where the hell have you all been? I've seen 1GB+ demos!
Jasoco #7 Posted September 21, 2004 I hope this means eventually there will be an Xbox demo. And I don't mean after the game is released, because I'll already be PLAYING it by then.
Max-T #8 Posted September 21, 2004 461MB does seem to be a bit much for what you get in the Doom 3 demo. I can only assume that much of space is used for high-res textures, but those of us who don't own $4000 brand-new computers won't be able to see the benefits of those. But I'm glad there is finally a demo out -- I now know that even though my PC can run it OK at lower quality settings, the game seems too boring and unoriginal to warrant buying the full version. I'll go back to playing my old copy of Doom II now...
Jasoco #9 Posted September 21, 2004 I still think that the greatest thing id could do is put 100% perfect console ports of the first two DOOM games on the Xbox disc. I would just die to get my hands on a console playable version of the originals that doesn't suck. Play console DOOM and DOOM II the way it was meant to be played. Should be able to run DOOM and DOOM2 without much problem.
Invader_dag #11 Posted September 21, 2004 to 500 mb, i say HA. Not that it isn't big, but come on, on a standard cable connection, you can get that in a couple hours. i wouldn`t say thats to big of deal really. I downloaded the full version of Planetside when they had that trial, can`t remember for how long. but it was around 3 or 4 gigs... AND the first download was corrupt when it finished. it took me about 5 days to finally get it downloaded and installed. and even worse, it sucked, in my opinion at least

Also, I need LIVE so it can't be Modded. Either way, I can not burn the disc myself or else I'd have all my NES ROM's and such on there as well. Without giving up too much, I started getting bored with some of the repetitiveness, but then I went to hell Big issue I have is the complexity of the game means any additional packs will prob take a long time to produce
Raijin Z #15 Posted September 22, 2004 My $575 system needs $300 more to run Doom 3 in PERFECTION mode. Still less than the price of an emac. OMG.
Fretwobbler #16 Posted September 22, 2004 PERFECTION mode. Thats not possilbe yet Wont be until 512MB video cards hit the shelves, and because of some stupid technicality meaning they are cost-prohibitive, we aint likely to see them for over a year. But yes, so close to perfection you cant tell the differance Get an Aquamark score like this silicon melting effort and your as close to perfection as current kit will allow
Raijin Z #17 Posted September 22, 2004 9_9 The newest game I can run with my current ram and vidcard in maximum detail, maximum resolution (for my monitor) and still get a decent framerate is Quake 2. Perfection mode = maxxing your shit right the fuck out.
AtariDude #18 Posted October 5, 2004 Holy Wait state, Batman! Half a Gig just for a demo? I know that everyone would like to play DOOM3 but I don't think I am getting this demo anytime soon unless I find it as a $3 or less disk at Babbages / Gamestop or EB. I rather get movie previews to watch from time to time then have to imitate what my days were like when I had a 56K modem or back when I had a 300 baud modem on my Atari 800XL.
