figgler #4 Posted September 24, 2004 I care. Out of pure interest of course. I don't have a PS2, and don't much like GT, but this really is a big deal considering that online play was toted as the big evolution and the major selling point of this sequel for so long. Considering the previous hype, this about face won't bode well for sales methinks

Cousin Vinnie #6 Posted September 24, 2004 I think GT is pretty over rated, and with some of the good driving games coming out, it's getting pushed down the list. CV

video game addict #8 Posted September 24, 2004 I'll probably still buy it. Can't help myself. methinks it sucks too, even though I have yet to take a console online. I have X-box & PS2 with the network adapter, and a wireless linksys router and station thingie for the game setup, & one of them pelican game selectors with 3 broadband hookups, so I'm set, just not playing anything online. But I do like the GT series, and might would have tried to go online with GT4 had it supported it. Maybe. So the Jap release, does it support online play? It came out earlier didn't it? Or was it a stripped down version as well? I think I read there was going to be two versions there anyway, one came out way back, and their input was being worked into the final release... xenomorpher #9 Posted September 24, 2004 I like GT games because you get down with the nitty gritty and buy diff parts and stuff but I didnt get a hang of the controls. As for online play I wouldnt really care too much since I dont have DSL yet
liveinabin #10 Posted September 25, 2004 I think it's gods way of telling them to play Burnout 3 instead
xenomorpher #11 Posted September 25, 2004 Burnout 3 to me is way funner
Clock #12 Posted September 25, 2004 I'm very surprised it's not online seeing as it's PS2s biggest blockbuster along side GTA. It's been delayed many times so it seems nonsense to rush it out now incomplete with broken promises. To make matters worse for PS2 owners is that Xbox's Forza is looking better and is online. I think Sony could show more care to it's loyal fans. At least PS2 owners have Burnout 3 to play which is very very good indeed, but a very different type of experience. IronMongeR #13 Posted September 25, 2004 PS2 online is a joke. No online features makes no difference to me at all. I'm sure it will be awesome.
liveinabin #14 Posted September 25, 2004 I guess it makes more sense to get it on the shelves before Christmas. This is, after all, the PS2's very last Christmas as the leading console before the next lot come out next year. Committing to online play now would be too little, too late. Sony's eyes are firmly on the PS3, it's clear. And I'm sure they'll have learned from Xbox live, the next GT will be PS3 and very much online.
ultravi0let #15 Posted September 26, 2004 i'll be buying the game to play it on single-player, even if it did have online play. for me the driving is only half of the game, and its the tuning which floats my boat most
moycon #16 Posted September 26, 2004 Have any of the Gran Turismo games featured online play? In any case I find your video game facts facinating Adrian M. Can you please list all the current video games that don't feature online play and post a link to them... Thanks in advance.

Justin42 #18 Posted September 27, 2004 I think I'll stick my neck out and claim that GT4 will sell just fine, even without online play. ;)
Tickled_Pink #19 Posted September 27, 2004 I've been playing a rented copy of GT3 for the past couple of days. When the original GT came out on the PS1 it was one hell of a game. But now, it seems somewhat dated. It's a pure arcade racer (try saying that whilst driving a Mazda MX-5 in the game - moves more like a Reliant Robin than the roadster it's supposed to be). There's no car damage, meaning there's no need for intelligence in the (for want of a better phrase) Artificial Intelligence - hell, there was probably more intelligence to be found in the CIA's intelligence reports on Iraq! In fact, the game resembles something closer to a computerised slot racer. One of the reasons I asked for a PS2 over the Xbox for my birthday last month was for GT4. But after playing GT3 I'm surprised I'd forgotten what GT was about, and that there had been so few improvements in the game. *Sigh* Time to look for another killer game for the PS2. Sylentwulf #20 Posted September 27, 2004 GT3 wasn't nearly as good as the first 2 IMO. Sure, the graphics, and technical crap was better, but I don't care about that. I enjoyed the RPG aspect of building up better and better cars. I also enjoyed going back and CRUSHING the lesser cars with my new powerhouse even if it didn't give me much money (which you can't really do in the newer ones). Also, the specialized races in the new one SUCKED. Every single race, you HAD to have a specific car. I do NOT want to race in an 88HP car. EVER. PERIOD. I'm sure I'll get GT4 when it goes down to $20, but I don't have high hopes for it after GT3.
Stingray #21 Posted September 27, 2004 I'll buy it. I have no interest in online play anyway. -S
Jasoco #22 Posted October 2, 2004 For some reason, this makes me extremely happy. I look forward to letting all the people who come in to buy it or happen to mention it know the "News". I dunno why. I also love the title of that page. Yes.. Shattered Dreams. All right. I'm done.
