bergbros2 #1 Posted September 27, 2004 I was watching a few minutes of both review shows on the new G4/Tech TV. I thought these shows are ok with Judgment Day to be the more comprehensive and maturer of the two. I had to like the fact that Tommy Talarico of Judgment Day likes the Dreamcast and they actually review old Dremacat games (Mr. Driller!) although I have to take issue with the review of Slave Zero which they liked and I thought it was a realy pedestrian game 9Literally figuratively). X-Play has more personality and attitude although it is a lot more nerdy. Victor Lucas, the other reviewer in JD is so bland that he is soporific. It doesn't hurt that X-Play has a female reviewer, but I don't know if Morgan Webb is a gamer or like the Asian woman on G4 whose name escapes me who obviously is not (and I beleive looks down on gamers). Adam Sessler gets a little bit annoying at times but they are not condescending and don't take themselves to seriously. If I had to chose between the two shows I would probably take JD becasue their review scale is better, is no-nonsense and the maturer style fits my personality more. Is there a reviewer whether on TV, oin print or on the web that you feel is the most credible. I like Gamespot becasue of the sheer comprehensiveness. They seem to have reviews of everything including imports across all platforms except a few like the Neo Geo Pocket and generally their reviews seem to be generally on target. Radio F Software #2 Posted September 27, 2004 I say that RadioFSoftware has the best reviews of NES games. Seriously though, I like XPlay over Judgement Day for the fact that its got humor in it. I will say I dont like their # out of 5 ratings but it is a good show. One of the last good shows leftover from TechTV.
Chrispy #3 Posted September 27, 2004 They both have their advantages and disadvantages. JD has the better grading scale and I think has more and better info on the games they review. They take is more seriously. X-play focuses mainly on being a comedy, but their reviews aren't too bad either. If you're looking for a funny show about games then X-play is the show, but JD takes the subject more seriously.
kemsted #4 Posted September 27, 2004 I definitely like JD better out of the two but I still watch X-play.
Sylentwulf #6 Posted September 27, 2004 Judgment day is by FAR my favorite game review show. X-play just doesn't cut it for me at ALL. Morgan is STUPID, and sessler bugs the hell out of me. Neither of them have ANY clue about videogames. Judgment day you get comments like "madden came out for pretty much ever system this week, although I didn't like the intellivision version, but the odyssey version kicked ass!" The 2 in judgment day are COMPLETE opposites and like COMPLETELY different games. They WILL argue, they KNOW what they're doing, and you can tell they actually PLAYED the games as opposed to just looked at the back of the box (like x-play)
PaulEMoz #7 Posted September 27, 2004 X-Play. Tommy Tallarico is the most irritating person on TV. Although Sessler has become more moronic since Morgan Webb joined X-Play, I still prefer that show. I don't know where the "just looked at the back of the box" comment came from, you can tell the X-Play presenters are both serious gamers.
xenomorpher #8 Posted September 27, 2004 X-Play all the way. They are both gamers and they are serious gamers but they do kid around so dont have a cow. Judgement Day is fair also but the one guy basically hates everything but good reviews. However X-Play sometimes previews games. I went with X-Play because its the 1st gaming show I actually liked, Adam is sometimes funny to me, Morgon is hot and she is an actual gamer (she plays Unreal Tournament 2004)
Mr.FoodMonster #9 Posted September 27, 2004 X-Play. Sooo many reasons. For one, one of the guys on JD hates EVERYTHING and constantly gives great games bad scores (I think he gave the Megaman Collection like, a 3 or something!) Morgan is hot, and knows her shit, and Adam can be funny at times, even if a little annoying. X-Play sometimes skims on reviews a bit, but they are just a much more solid bunch. Jess Ragan #10 Posted September 27, 2004 I personally prefer Judgment Day... despite the incredible stupidity of its co-host Tommy Tallarico. Why? It's because the other host, Victor Lucas, makes it easy to forget about Tallarico. He's the only person on G4TechTV (aside from Kevin Periera) whose opinion I respect and trust. He reviews games professionally, putting his own personal biases behind him and covering the most important aspects of the games. Tommy often does the exact opposite, rating games on such criteria as the number of times he got to look up a female character's skirt, but he's easy enough to ignore. RJ #11 Posted September 28, 2004 Judgement Day. I'd say it's the "gamer's game review" show. It presents BOTH reviewers' views (on Xplay ONE of them does each review), & much of the time they disagree w/ each other, w/ Vic being the more level-headed of the pair. I also love the "Buried Treasure" segments, & bought games based solely on their appearance there. Tommy's actually in the biz, & Vic produces/directs JD & Electric Playground. Adam & Morgan are just personalities on the channel. X-play used to be good; I liked it when Adam was alone for awhile & more serious, since he had no one to play off of. Skeletorgan looks good, but that doesnt make her a better show host. Plus, they go for the wackiness factor, w/ lame jokes & gags, whereas JD actually gets a chuckle out of me once in awhile. Adam seems like a spaz who'd drop the controller a lot during play.
BydoEmpire #12 Posted September 28, 2004 I can't stand Tommy Tallarico, so I'd say Judgement Day. I just don't trust Tommy's reviews. Example: he said Ikaruga has horrible graphics, and is too short. It's a freakin' shooter! Example 2, and worst of all, he said he "despises" Phantasy Star Online, one of my favorite games of all time.

msaeger #14 Posted September 28, 2004 How about G4 making a show with Victor and Adam. I preferred Extended Play to both of them I still like Xplay better than judgement day but it would be far better with out the prank type crap geared toward 13 year olds. I would rather see them just show the games, describe them, and maybe make comparisons to other games instead of the ratings. I don't really care if they like it or not I just want info about the game so I can decide if I would like it.
dinovelvet #15 Posted September 28, 2004 I prefer X-Play, its more bright & breezy. JD would be OK if it was just the Victor guy, because his reviews are balanced and well thought-out. Even if he loves a game, he points out what flaws it might have, and vice versa. As everyone else has said, that Tommy guy hates most of the games, and usually for inane reasons. XPlay is just more fun to watch, especially the segments where they go to conventions. Keep it nice and light...I mean, its a freakin' show about videogames, not Tolstoy
kollektorking #16 Posted September 29, 2004 I like both shows but I'll give XPlay the extra nudge. Judgment day works for me when they go to the conventions and do reviews on Comics, figures and other things of special interests. XPlay was at its peeks early on when Adam was with the other chick (3-4 years ago) and was cool when he was by himself. But I watch both shows whenever there on. kollektorking
kollektorking #17 Posted September 29, 2004 Oh, and if I had to to choose a show that was better than both of them I would choose "The Anti Gravity Room". It was a show that came on the Sci Fi Channel back in the early-mid 90's. It combined both show and talked/interviewed everyone in gaming/comic/figure world. Plus the host was actually into the whole the gaming thing. kollektorking

shep #19 Posted September 29, 2004 Xplay by far because anything thats a G4 original sucks monkey poo. Long live TechTV. Its sad because I stopped watching it once they merged. Its just so awful....well I watched the new TSS, and its all cheesy and stoopid.
vb_master #20 Posted September 29, 2004 Judgement day SUCKS, X-Play is the best! I feel that G4's gaming content ruined TechTV's computer content, and made an all-day boring die-hard gamer show. When is the PC4 content running, anyways?
kollektorking #21 Posted September 29, 2004 There doesnt seem to be an equal balance of computer / videogame shows. I do like the few additions that made to the channel such as Players, and Icons. kollektorking
Sylentwulf #22 Posted September 29, 2004 I'm really surprised so many people like having all positive reviews for games. I know I'm by FAR in the minority here, but Tommy says what's BAD with most games. That's a good thing IMO. It's great to know that game x was fun, great graphics, and is a good game for people that enjoy type x. But I want to know what's BAD with game x as well. I'm just as picky as anyone else, and if my biggest gaming turnoff is bad voice acting, tommy is going to say something about it, whereas the other 3 mentioned might mention "it doesn't have the best voice acting" Tommy will say flat out "The voice acting in this sucked. Period." Morgan is a friggin airhead. And Sessler is NOT much higher up on the evolutionary ladder. Ranking every single game either a 3 out of 5 or a 4 out of five doesn't help either. (a game rated 6 out of ten, versus a game rated 8 out of ten is a HUGE difference.)
Classic Pac #23 Posted September 29, 2004 I got hooked on Judgment Day when it used to be called Electric Playground. I think that Adam S the co-host of X-Play is a real jerk, and I known so real ones and he tops my list. At least on JD they give you a review of a game you can trust. If your wondering which shows get the most hits on the Tech TV/ G 4 message boards. It's JD 2 to
BydoEmpire #24 Posted September 29, 2004 Heh, yeah, oops. I meant X-Play
Stingray #25 Posted September 29, 2004 I'd watch Morgan Webb review soup spoons. -S
