Mot #1 Posted November 1, 2001 I was at the thrift store and didn't find anything cool in the electronics. I was looking at kid's books when my eyes hit the Atari symbol (it is funny how my body reacts to the Atari symbol now). This is a "Super Breakout" storybook and a record. I don't have any record player so I guess I can't listen to it. I can't find much about these storybooks on any web page. So I would like to know how special these are and any more info anyone can share? Thanks. I guess this was the just the storybook company looking to cache in on the Atari name. Alex #5 Posted November 2, 2001 I have several records, both 45 and LP. I just don't have a turntable, but one of these days I'll go to a freind's house and put them on a CD. Here's some more information about the Kid Stuff records: Kid Stuff Oops, I meant 45, not 33. [ 11-01-2001: Message edited by: Alex ]

rolenta #8 Posted November 2, 2001 quote: Originally posted by Alex: I have several records, both 33 and LP. Actually 33s and LPs are the same thing. The original records were 78s which contained about 5 minutes of music on a 12 inch platter. 33 1/3 records, which came out in the late '20s, could accomodate up to 30 minutes of music. Therefore they were dubbed LPs, for Long Play. All this can be found in my "History of Incompatibility" at: http://gamespot.com/gamespot/features/vide...mpat/p5_02.html
Mot #9 Posted November 2, 2001 I didn't get to look at it too much but it looks like it is just a cheese space ship story. The pictures are all black and white. If you all want, I can type in the story, this weekend and let you down load it. I didn't tell you that the book didn't have the record in it and I was very sad So I franticly look all over the place for the record and my heart skipped a beat when I found it in a bunch of records. I though AtariAge would have something about it (And this was made by KidStuff.) I could buy a record player or maybe send it to someone. And put both the wav files and scans of the book on a CD and sell them for $20. Just kidding. Maybe AtariAge would like them for their site?
Alex #10 Posted November 2, 2001 Yes, eventually we'd like to have scans of the storybooks and MP3's of the records, so that people can listen to them via the site. I actually have one of them on tape I think, so that would be easy enough to get into MP3, maybe I can do it this weekend. Someone sent that tape to me, although I can't remember who it was off-hand. I was going to send them a tape of what I have, but I've never been able to dump my vinyl to tape (or CD or whatever) yet. So anyway, if you feel like converting them to MP3 or sending us a tape dub or whatever, we'll put it on the site.
liveinabin #11 Posted November 2, 2001 In all this nostalgia though, it IS worth noting that ALL of these books suck badly No amount of rose tinted eyewear can make my Star Raiders book anything other than naff
Rhindle The Red #12 Posted November 2, 2001 I've got "The Story of Missile Command" scanned and I'm going to send it to you later today. So far, however, I can't seem to get a decent sound out of my stero and turntable for making the MP3s of the records. FYI, I have "The Story of Yar's Revenge" and "The Story of Super Breakout" as well. Just haven't had a lot of time for scanning.
Mot #13 Posted November 5, 2001 Well I found my scanning software and installed it. Then it took me more than an hour to find out how to have the software recognize the scanner. Then a few hours to get everything scanned in. But here is the Super Breakout storybook scans: www.geocities.com/mot505/sbrkout.zip I found two turntables but both did not have a needle, so no sound files. moycon #14 Posted November 5, 2001 Clicked on the link and it took me here: We're sorry, but this page is currently unavailable for viewing. If this site belongs to you, please read this help page for more information and assistance. Sigh. I was really looking forward to reading the super breakout story especially. I can imagine it now: "The Atari squad pulled a glowing space orb from their space bag. One of them launched the orb at the alien wall that stood between them...and their escape! The orb struck the wall, bounced off and a large chunk of the wall fell to the ground! The Atari squad caught the orb and threw it at the alien wall again. The orb struck the wall, bounced off and a large chunk of the wall fell to the ground! The Atari squad caught the orb and threw it at the alien wall again. Mot #17 Posted November 5, 2001 Sorry, I could not get a good link but Lemmi is correct you can just type in www.geocities.com/mot505/sbrkout.zip in the location. Your story is very close. But there is only one person and he only has 3 "missiles of white light". and he has to get back to New Califonrnia. When I played Super Breakout on the 2600 I got 5 shots? and no where does it say his ships gets smaller
Atari Rescue Group #18 Posted December 25, 2004 A friend just sent me the Kid Stuff Asteroids storybook with the 45 record. Al, do you guys need images of this one for the archives? And the song?

Digital Press has MP3s of an Asteroids record. I assume that I'd be the same one.
