chrishicks #1 Posted September 30, 2004 I keep seeing posts around here about these 2 games and was wondering what the differences are. which is the prefered version to own?
Paolo #2 Posted September 30, 2004 I think everybody here would reply "ProtSE is the right one", the main differences are: SE has got a facility that allows running unencrypted CDs SE has got new (and better) graphics SE has got tweaked difficulty increase SE has got a hidden picture (I still can't go upto that level) and maybe something else I am missing now ... +Cobra Kai #3 Posted October 1, 2004 If you buy the SE version, you get the Native demo CD. Also, doesn't SE have a different soundtrack? I like the SE soundtrack, but I've read some people prefer the original. Either way its got cool music.
K3V #4 Posted October 1, 2004 SE also has built-in BJL so you can play underground games and develop without modding your Jag.
goatdan #5 Posted October 2, 2004 SE is much more balanced gameplay-wise. The original game had an insanely tough learning curve. If you died past a certain level, you usually couldn't beat it from the point you were at. This made parts of the first game nearly impossible to pass. This was fixed for SE and makes the game a million times more enjoyable for all comers, in my opinion Protector is one of my favorite games for the Jaguar, and SE is even better. If you're debating purchasing one, get SE if you *only* plan on getting one, or get Protector first and then upgrade to SE later...

justclaws #13 Posted October 17, 2004 Hello Carl, Prot SE will be back in stock in about two weeks. Keep your eye on the Songbird catalog, it will be updated as soon as I have more available! I'm guessing you sold-out with UK orders after the RAVE review in UK magazine (and Edge rival/successor) "Gaming" magazine, iss#23, the edition which featured the Jaguar as the retro console. (At last...) If you didn't read it... I'll post it. Anybody else interested, not seen it? Cheers, JustClaws.
Songbird #14 Posted October 22, 2004 That looks like a very cool article! Thanks for the info, Richard. Oh, and Protector SE is now back in stock.
Iron Draggon #15 Posted October 22, 2004 Are you ever gonna get the original version back in stock?
Songbird #16 Posted October 25, 2004 I haven't built any more of the original Protector since Prot SE was released in 2002. Prot SE is definitely the superior version of the game, although I can appreciate that some collectors may want both versions to complete their collections. If a small quantity of people really wanted another run of Protector, I would consider it. But really I haven't seen much demand since it went out of production.
