cvga #1 Posted October 2, 2004 My 5 year old loves Seawolf. Tonight she was playing while I was messing around with my iPod on the computer. She had been playing for a long time and said "Daddy, how many points do I have?". When I looked back she had over 126,000 and nearly 100 extra ships. I don't even know how to get an extra ship. I have absolutely no idea how she did it since I wasn't paying any attention. I do know that she tends to hang out on one side of the screen, shoots like crazy, and goes lights out for the "badge" (her word for the restocking pod). Here's her final score. If someone knows how she did it, I'd like to hear about it! BTW: She wanted to know if she would get a patch. My son and I were playing X3V0LuX a couple of nights ago to get a high enough score for a patch. I guess she was paying more attention than I thought. bjk7382 #2 Posted October 2, 2004 Wow. I was "supposed" to be one of the beta testers for this game, and while I thought the difficulty was okay, I didn't try and simple tricks like just staying by the edge of the screen and shooting (which I probably should have) I found quite a bit of time to play this game before it was released (but not as much as I would have liked), and I just had a lot of mediocre games (and I did play a bunch of games on all of the difficultys, and found them all to get gradually more difficult)
Cybergoth #3 Posted October 3, 2004 Hi there! WOW! Now that's an amazing score for a 5 year old! I'm very curious how she did that. And chance she can do that again, while you observe what she's doing? Greetings, Manuel
video game addict #4 Posted October 3, 2004 frying.
cvga #5 Posted October 3, 2004 frying. No, it wasn't frying. My son played a game before she did and they both know that fooling around with the Atari will get them kicked off of it. I watched the end of her game and she never gained an extra ship so I'm assuming that one event happened during her gameplay that accidentally made the game award a ton of extra ships rather than having her build her reserve one at a time. I'll definitely pay more attention next time she plays. Hopefully she can duplicate it but she doesn't know what she did either.
video game addict #6 Posted October 4, 2004 You're no fun! Frying is the key to all of Atari's best kept secrets. Is that left B right A on difficulty settings? Judging from that picture it looks like it is, or maybe I have it backwards, those two colors are too close for me to tell apart. Out of curiosity, what's her average score? Above photo/game not included. Judging from your post it seems this was a freak of nature, not just a top preformance for a well versed Seawolf player. Maybe you really can sink the red cross?! I like this game alot, but seeing that score, just makes me sick. lol a 5 yr old girl lol I suck.
cvga #7 Posted October 4, 2004 It's left A right B. She was playing on a 4 switch so I didn't even notice the difficulty settings. The one super long game she played took way more time than all of her other games combined so their average score wouldn't be significant (it's probably in the two thousand range though). In the past, I've sometimes had to show her how to hold the joystick properly (so that the button's in the upper left corner). I wouldn't exactly describe her as well-versed. Well seeing as there's no up/down movement she could hold upside down all day long and still make out alright in this game. I had a cousin who used a NES pad upside down all the time, I really have no clue how someone played like that. I've been playing on a 4 switch too, and didn't notice the diff switches were both on advance when I got. It wasn't until a couple days later I looked at manual. I seemed to have still overlooked one tidbit on the color/B&W switch, as I've been having a time burning thru all my torpedos too quickly. That was only today I noticed! So it's good to read manauls sometimes. That's some score though, I wonder how long before someone can top it? Or if somebody can top it! She should submit to Twin Galaxes website. Cybergoth #9 Posted October 4, 2004 Hi there! Well, Seawolf normally don't gives you any extra lives at all, so something odd definitely happened there. It'd be interesting to see if there's a way to recreate it somehow on purpose, or if it's been just a one time oddity. As for a patch, there's none planned for Seawolf. But maybe she can be one of the Beta-Tester for my next game Greetings, Manuel
DEBRO #10 Posted October 6, 2004 She had been playing for a long time and said "Daddy, how many points do I have?". When I looked back she had over 126,000 and nearly 100 extra ships. This is very interesting. Did you see the subs count go down from 99, 98, 97, 96, 95...0? The screen shot shows 0 subs. I'm curious about how this happened too Looking at the code the subs are not BCD so 99 subs would really equate to 153 decimal When the sub count decremented did you see weird characters for numbers? Cybergoth #11 Posted October 6, 2004 Hi there! Looking at the code the subs are not BCD so 99 subs would really equate to 153 decimal With the # of subs supposedly ranging from 0-3 there's no need for BCD here. Either an underflow happened or the variable got destroyed somehow. Greetings, Manuel
Thomas Jentzsch #12 Posted October 6, 2004 Maybe two simulataneous deaths (e.g. hit by a bomb and running out of torpedos or time)? Is that possible?
keilbaca #13 Posted October 6, 2004 Sounds possible, like her time hitting zero, so she stops, gets hit by a torpedo already on its way, thus bringing it to 99...
Cybergoth #14 Posted October 6, 2004 Hi there! Maybe two simulataneous deaths (e.g. hit by a bomb and running out of torpedos or time)? Is that possible? Hehe, wow. I just posted the very same to [stella] Yes, this is precisesly what can happen. I don't think you can do it on purpose though. You need to be on your last life, then either torpedos or fuel must run out the same frame as you get hit! Greetings, Manuel

keilbaca #16 Posted October 6, 2004 That shouldn't be too hard, fire all of your torpedo's and just before you get hit, fire the last one...

keilbaca #18 Posted October 6, 2004 But if you do send this to twin galaxies, that would not count as a high score for the simple fact you need to glitch the game to get the 99 lives to continue, therefore voiding their rules.
Cybergoth #19 Posted October 6, 2004 Hi there! That shouldn't be too hard, fire all of your torpedo's and just before you get hit, fire the last one... It requires the last torpedo to *expire*. I tried timing that for almost an hour, with a Seawolf hack starting with 1 life, 5 fuel and 1 torpedo and didn't manage doing it even once... But if you do send this to twin galaxies, that would not count as a high score for the simple fact you need to glitch the game to get the 99 lives to continue, therefore voiding their rules. You need to video-tape a #1 submission, so the glitch will get identified. Greetings, Manuel
Thomas Jentzsch #20 Posted October 6, 2004 That shouldn't be too hard, fire all of your torpedo's and just before you get hit, fire the last one... But you have only 1/60th second to make that happen. Ok, not completely impossible now that we know about.

cvga #22 Posted October 6, 2004 Sounds possible, like her time hitting zero, so she stops, gets hit by a torpedo already on its way, thus bringing it to 99... You haven't seen her play. She fires like crazy so it's unlikely that her timer would hit zero as she always runs out of torpedos first. Is there another way to have two simultaneous deaths? She's never heard of Twin Galaxies so she won't be disappointed about being disqualified On the other hand, I submitted a high score for Beamrider once and discovered that you have to send in a videotape in order for your score to count. Since I don't normally videotape my games I'll probably never make it either

Is there another way to have two simultaneous deaths? Not necessary, because your description exactly matches Manuel's description. She would die by getting hit by the enemy and loose her last torpedo at the very same time.
jetset #25 Posted May 1, 2020 Zombie thread alert! I searched for this because I'm playing in the High Score contest on Facebook. When I hit the score I thought I was a lock for the weeks top points, but alas....just a glitch, or an Easter Egg? Anyways, here's a screenshot...Are those possibly initials on the bottom right corner?
