Ebay rule change no more canceled auctions

Recommended Posts

Well it's something many of us complain about and perhaps (hopefully not) some might even do. That is canceling auctions at the last minute if the high bid doesn't suit us. Starting yesterday Ebay no longer allows the seller to cancel high bid in the last 12 hours unless he cancels and sells to the high bidder. The cancel all bids and end auction option will be gone in the last 12 hours. Buyers will still be able to cancel individual bids however.

That's a great news but I predict many of the sellers will still balk at the "low" selling price and refuse to complete auction.

I hope eBay is prepared to handle a surge of non performing sellers in the next week.

The way that you describe the change (I haven't seen the notice from eBay yet) does not sound fair to the seller. As a seller I have cancelled bids before for bidders who lived outside of the U.S. and did not contact me prior to biding and also for those who have a negative feedback rating. The seller should have a right to cancel bids from those who are unlikely to complete the transaction or bids from those that you have specifically excluded from the auction by its terms. It is pretty much impossible to cancel the bids of someone who bids in the final minute but as a seller I should be able to cancel any bids that are unwanted.

Sellers may still cancel specific bids that they find unwelcome

and if you read the last line of my post you will see that I too said that sellers may still cancel individual bids. Ebay specifically said that this is to keep sellers from canceling if their auction is not going for the price they would like.

Actually if you reread your last line you said that buyers will be able to cancel individual bids. I can see where the confusion came from.
