JB #2 Posted October 8, 2004 Didn't Mattel try that with an INTV game?
Radio F Software #3 Posted October 8, 2004 I remember seeing that. Thought it was a stupid cover up too.
SteveW #4 Posted October 8, 2004 Yep, Mattel did the same thing in their manual for NFL Football. There's an odd glitch that would make the game crash if you throw or kick a football from a certain point. In their own words, "If you document it, it's not a bug, it's a feature." Lost Monkey #5 Posted October 8, 2004 from the Sonic 3 manual.............. ITS NOT A MISTEAK. SEGA IS TEH KEWL. yOU ARE TEH DUH! Wouldn't it have been easy for them to just fill these "pits" with spikes so that they guaranteed death? A horrible bloody death! HAHAHAHA *cough*
Nukey Shay #6 Posted October 8, 2004 No...the problem would remain that they didn't research what caused the glitch to begin with. If that were done, they could have the program avoid those conditions completely...and save money on not designing certian-death rooms.
Cootster #7 Posted October 8, 2004 I always thought that those were more the fault of bad level design than bad code . . .

If that were done, they could have the program avoid those conditions completely...and save money on not designing certian-death rooms. The problem is the Sonic series on the Genesis is that they were all rushed projects. Example. Compare the currently existing Sonic 2 BETA to the final. There's all sorts of new levels (most dont exist) music and graphics. Then most were scrapped and the whole damn thing was redone. There's even bits of a beta level left in the final thats accessed with some 1337 savestate hacking. The manual "feature" thing is likely something someone found days before the release and said "Oh shit dude you gotta see this man, we're in deeeeeeep crap!" Ralph3 #9 Posted October 10, 2004 Mattel also had a "feature" on Star Hark that it would "hyperspace" you automatically if you get in a "black hole" IIRC.
Susuwatari #10 Posted October 10, 2004 You also got to see some "wondeful" surprise if you make it through 13 waves in Minestorm on Vectrex.
Room 34 #11 Posted October 11, 2004 I remember reading about a few "features" like these in Atari game manuals too... the best, though, is the "hint" in the Yars' Revenge manual that was basically intended to scare you away from creating the conditions that would reveal HSW's Easter egg! JB #12 Posted October 11, 2004 Mattel also had a "feature" on Star Hark that it would "hyperspace" you automatically if you get in a "black hole" IIRC.That's the one I was thinking of.Couldn't recall the name off-hand.
+kisrael #13 Posted October 11, 2004 I remember reading about a few "features" like these in Atari game manuals too... the best, though, is the "hint" in the Yars' Revenge manual that was basically intended to scare you away from creating the conditions that would reveal HSW's Easter egg! "When you destroy the Qotile, or a Swirl, there will be an explosion, during which the Yar stays on the screen. Use this opportunity to make up your own victory dance. And watch out for the Ghost of Yars! You'll see his mean streak, so stay off it!" Heheheh. Yeah, I always thought that Easter Egg was too easy to accidentally trigger, especially because it ended the game. I wonder if it would have been that much harder to let the game resume after it went away?
