Spector
Will modded Xboxs read CD-R's? Apparently some do and some don't. I've also heard someone say that CD-RWs can work. Anyone out there that uses a modded Xbox for emulation purposes, have you managed to upload files, ROMs etc via CD-R?
Classic Pac
Actually they were just talking about that recently on a cable show. They said it is actually best to use DVDs, if you want more detail I can only suggest you check out one of the XBOX forums...
Starscream
Yes it is possible. If you have a Samsung DVD drive in it or a Philips, chances are they will both read most CD-r's or CD-RW's. If you have a DVD burner, any will read a DVD-R, only Thompsons and Philips will read DVD+R. Also, the brand media you use can make a difference. Sony,HP, or Memorex(DVD's) have all read in any drive for me so far. I have also used Memorex CD-R's (700Meg) in all 3 type drives but for some reason the Thompsons are very picky and not consistant and sometimes will only read a 650 meg
Artlover
If you have a DVD burner, any will read a DVD-R, only Thompsons and Philips will read DVD+R. FYI: I've got 5 xbox's with Thompson drives, and none of them will read DVD+R media unless you bitset the booktype to DVD-Rom.
PuddWakkr
I've never come across a Thomson (there is no "p" in thomson") drive that would not read DVD+R. Just out of curiosity what dvd burner are you using and what software? I have a TDK 420N burner and use Stomp RNM and have never had to change a thing. Strange Do you happen to have DVDInfo? Check some of the DVD's and see what it reports. Depending on the make/model/firmware of DVD burner you have, it could be setting the booktype for +R media as DVD-Rom by default.
Artlover
Just out of curiosity what dvd burner are you using and what software? I use an Optorite DD0203, Lite-On LDW-451S and NEC-3500AG. Use Roxio EZCDC 6 Platinum, Alcohol 120%, B's Recorder Gold 5, and Nero 6. Admittedlty, every +R disc that I burned that didn't work on the Xbox was burned with the DD0203. Where as the ones that I have burned that did work were burned with the NEC-3500A. I'll have to try UNsetting the booktype back to +R and see if the discs still work. Starscream
I never even checked out any settings or anything truthfully. I just popped it in and started using it. I have the nice and cheap Pioneer Dvr 107D. But thanks for reminding me to finally update the firmware on it
