StanJr #26 Posted November 7, 2001 WOW! This thread went nuts. 2 points: First, exactly which light bulb are you debating? And keep in mind that post industrial revolution, credit goes to the first to patent the invention, not just the first to find it. Second: Did someone say "Iced Tea?" Ugh. Tea, under NO circumstance should be served cold. What's the point? To all involved: Am I the only one who is totally loving this give and take cultural exchange? It is refreshing to know that the world is still a diverse place and has not been Disney-fied or fallen victim to Political Correctness. Thanks Expanding my horizons, Stan
Rhindle The Red #27 Posted November 7, 2001 quote: Originally posted by StanJr: post industrial revolution, credit goes to the first to patent the invention, not just the first to find it. Who says? I for one give credit to Winsor McCay for inventing the modern process of cel animation, no matter that he had no business sense and was conned out of it by someone who patented it first. You're argument sounds like something out of Ralph Baer. "I got the patent, so I must have done it first." Right.
atari70s #28 Posted November 8, 2001 so if i left you all the number youd call into the show?
Nateo #29 Posted November 8, 2001 Last time I heard, this thread was supposed to be about an Atari radio show, not the English (no offense to any of you). Anyway, sorry 70's, I cant listen to your show. I go to school early in the morning (first period starts at 7:40). Is it possible to swap your Tuesday morning slot for a Saturday morning slot or a Friday afternoon slot? Just wondering.
StanJr #30 Posted November 8, 2001 Sadly in this age of over-litigation and legal froo-froo, history will most likely recall those who first obtained legal proof of invention as the "real" or "official" inventors. It may not be fair, but that looks like the way it may be. Don't mistake me for a fan of this idea, just realistic about it. I invented the telescope. jahfish #31 Posted November 8, 2001 lots of points to discuss on and on ... 1) quoteActually, I think the same about the states. You ask for vinegar down there, and you get some brown crap. that "brown crap" is nothing more than old red vine. you can do that yourself, leave a bottle open for a few weeks ... actually what i (as french) understand as vinegar. that "white crap" ( ) is produced industrially .... gourmets will often tell you that "aceto balsamico" is the best dressing/vinegar .... funny, it's that "brown crap" you were talking about .... on the other side i personally love cucumber salads too, and the are mostly made with white vinegar. so i don't want to miss that one too. actually there's no real point in discussing that vinegar thing on and on. ask marco about fries. in amsterdam/netherlands you can choose between up to 20 different dressings for your fries, mix 2 or 3 styles ... be thankfull that there's so much different flavours and food styles, so much culture in it .... otherwise we'd be all eating burgers beeing the easiest and cheapest .... or just pills ... 2) that computer thing ..... well as far as i know, a german physician invented the computer. the first really working one was built in usa (at the MIT?). still, i might be wrong. 3) quoteHEY WELL FRIES ARE MEANT TO BE EATEN WITH KETSUP" right! and with the extras, if you are lucky to be in NL! 4) quote"Yes all true about England but it is 28 degrees, rains all day and you only see the sun 3 times a year." in california every day it's hot and sunny. enjoy the life of a lizard! 5) quote"we live in houses older than both your countries" according to your name "liveinabin"... did you mean: "we live in trash cans older than both your countries" ;-D don't take it personal i actually hate myself for not going to blackpool to the eurocon2001 6) quote"About that "Rednecks are Evil" thing, I live in one of the most rednecky little towns I've ever been in. Most rednecks I meet aren't really evil, but there are some exceptions.." it's like with the neo-facists here in germany, most of these guys are just short-minded. they don't travel around cause they have no money so they did never see anything else of the world. and these guys vote 100% for the weapon industry, so they'll get 24H a day wrestling all their life long ... i grew up in a pretty right wing area of berlin, so i had to deal with those eggheads .... i recorded them ska-tapes, being "skinhead-music"but never told them that half of the "specials" were black musicians
liveinabin #32 Posted November 8, 2001 I know this has got silly I'd love to have a listen to the show
khryssun #33 Posted November 8, 2001 Hmmmm... Computers were invented by a French Ingineer who recently win an action in law and received (him/his familly ?) a *Big* indemnity from the society who "stole" is invention paternity. I give you the information as I get it in a scientific TV magazine I watch 15 days ago. [ 11-08-2001: Message edited by: khryssun ]

StanJr #35 Posted November 8, 2001 Sorry 70's old pal, I got distracted. If I didn't have to work most days when you are on, I'd give you a buzz. PLUS you have the unfortunate task of competing with Howard Stern. PLUS, We have a local station here that uses the same freq. But if you get it up and running on the internet, I'll try to listen when I can and perhaps give you a ring. Did you give the phone # yet? Back on track Stan
liveinabin #36 Posted November 8, 2001 Well, dependswhat you mean by computer, Mr Babbages creation was called a difference engine, it didnt use electricity but it calculated as a computer does, and it pre-empted all the rest of that stuff
StanJr #37 Posted November 8, 2001 If you want to get REALLY technical, then lets talk the ABACUS, the REAL first computer.
liveinabin #38 Posted November 8, 2001 hehe. I'll admit defeat on one major topic though. it is a shame to Britain that we invented neither the Twinkie or Froot Loops. Ot those bags of chips that can hold a family of four. America does snack food like NO-ONE else. Your chocolate sucks tho, hehe
StanJr #39 Posted November 8, 2001 Chocolate here tastes less and less like chocolate and more like wax. If you want the real stuff you gotta lay down some serious clams. Swiss Stan To keep 70's happy and stay on topic let me just plug his radio show and ask him again for the phone number. Covering all the bases Swiss Stan

Lemmi #42 Posted November 8, 2001 maybe you should wait till about 2 or 3 weeks before you go live on air to give it out as people might forget or misplace the number
StanJr #43 Posted November 9, 2001 I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss it. Be sure you clue us in when the show rolls around so we can call ya.
atari70s #44 Posted November 9, 2001 if i get the green light you people can call in but there isnt a way to listen unless i make tapes and sell for cost of the tape and the shipping price. so maybe 2.00 a show maybe . im not sure but heck if i get the green light you can call in
