What parts can be salvaged form a non working 2600?

What can be taken from some of my non working systems to use again? I have a few that i would like to take parts off of but i dont know which ones to save. Any ideas?

BOY!!! DO I FEEL STUPID...... i spelt from wrong.....

And recorded in the AA posting database for all time!

 

Save all the parts .. until they can be fixed!

Pretty well everything that isn't dead is salvageable. Mostly though you'd probably be concerned about the main components: 6507, RIOT, TIA, all ports, power regulator, RF, things like that. These are the things most likely to be dead or flaky in a non-working system.

the switches! I need some replacement switches, my select switch just died in my modified audio/video atari.. :x

Every part except the one that's dead.

 

Seriously. Case plastics, RF wires, and socketed chips are the easy parts, but with desoldering the switches can be reused (and even re-greased after they've been removed from the board), and so can just about any part you want to salvage, like random resistors and capacitors.

When I get paid I'll have to head over there and buy me some switches then, I need to replace all of them in my promo atari 2600 (its pretty beaten up, I never seen an atari with a dent in the case, its to the left of the 1st player cartridge port) and 3 switches are broke. It works, but barely, just needs those switches, and now the select switch for my modded atari. Time to get out the soldering iron... thanks CPUWIZ
