How did you decide what console/portable to buy?

Recommended Posts

for me its the $100 mark for a new console that gets me to buy them, i have been behind the times ever since the Genesis, i played that happily up untill NHL 97 came out

the only new consoles i personally purchaced (with my own money) new within the first 6 to 8 months of release is the 7800 (because my 2600 died), and the TG-16 (just for the TV sports hockey)

the dreamcast i got when they had the $50 system sales so i had to get that

the Gamecube i got in a trade for my CuttleCart1 sometime in 2002

as for handhelds, i am not really into them, i have the original gameboy with 1 game, the game gear with 9 games, and the lynx with 1 game

i will probably get the Xbox at some point but not the PS2

I originally bought a PS2 just for Twisted Metal: Black, but later sold it because it had no more games I really wanted to play. I bought an Xbox after I sold the PS2 because it had the hard drive so I could put all my CD's on it, and because Xbox has more first person shooters.

Lrts see why did i buy x-box? Well the green one looked cool and it came with halo plus i was judt dieing to get my hands on dragoon orta since i love the panzer games. The game cube much like the 64 was so i could play mario sunshine. Which i loved and played a ton also that godzilla game was awsome and at the time i was a residet evil nut so i decided i must have one. I got one by tradeing in my 64 and 10 games to knock 100 bucks off the price. So i only ended up paying 50$ for my cube money well spent to me. As for the ps2 well.....looking back on it i wanted it for the same reason every one wanted one back then. It was new and could play ps1 games looking back on it i waiseted 300$.

The games. Fuck system/company loyalty. Usually those people are the same hypocritical fucks who laugh at people who think Final Fantasy games are the greatest just because it's Final Fantasy.

1. XBOX - I bought the XBOX on launch day along with Halo and PGR.  Why?  Because I value Microsoft as a company

(stares at 15th blue screen of the day)

You VALUE Microsoft?!?!? oooo....kaaaaay

I wanted a Gamecube because I thought the wrestling games for it would have been similiar to No Mercy and VPW2 for the N64. When their crappy Wrestlemania line came out I sold the system and bought a PS2.

After my second PS2 broke, I bought a GC after the price drop since a bunch of decent games were cheaply priced. I've been happy ever since.

Explain your decision-making process.

The decision was easy for me.

(1) I have no time for portables, because I'm always working or at home, so that automatically eliminates Neo Geo Pocket, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Game Boy Advance, N-gage, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable

(2) I waited until 2002, because I wanted to let the market decide. That eliminated the Dreamcast which was removed from the market.

(3) That only left 3 choices - Xbox, Cube, or PS2. The PS2 was clearly the winner. It had the most games, a game for every genre, lots of variety, and had the support of 50 million users to attract future games.

(Plus backwards compatible with the old PS1 games...bonus!)

(4) In 2003, I bought a second console. I looked at the Box, and saw nothing worth buying. So the Cube was the obvious choice.

(5) Bought an Xbox. It now grows mold. Worse decision I ever made regarding gaming.

Do you like RC models? :ponder:

The only game systems I owned when they were "new" were the Atari 2600 (which my dad actually decided on, but in May 1982 it was the obvious choice) and the Game Gear (which I bought in 1995 for a trans-Pacific flight... GameBoy Color wasn't out yet or I'd have gotten that instead).

Then came the GameCube. Frankly I had pretty much abandoned consoles in favor of computer games by the time the NES was out. But last year I finally started to see new console games that appealed to me, and they were pretty much all on the GameCube. Throw in the fact that it was the cheapest of the 3 systems (even though, yet again, my dad bought it for me!!!) and the choice was obvious.

Or to look at it another way: By far my two favorite games on the system are Metroid Prime and Zelda: Wind Waker. What more do I need to say?

:)

I bought my Gamecube First because I have every Nintendo System ever made, with the exception of Virtual Boy...thats how I decided. I also have a Ps2. an X box may be soon to complete the collection. I don't care, I have no beef with sony or microsoft or nintendo.

Look at the launch titles sega saturn x. The PSP is getting anti-shock technology so thats a plus. The DS has softwear with it already and is like a PDA. Maybe you should, the PSP might not be do out for awhile and if you want pretty soon get the DS. Lets not forget about the Gamepark 32 (GP-32) it plays emulators and other stuff so you get a lot of bang for your buck.

The thing that turns me off about the new hand helds is almost all of the games comeing out for them are ports. And its not hard to find there big brothers for less money. I dont know just dosent seam worth it to me. And as for the gp32 i have never ever seen one for sale and emulation dosent do much for me.

It does more than emulation. Plays games videos and music. I dont think all the DS and PSP games are ports maybe like 3 outta them all. I'd just wait or actually play one.
