Jess Ragan #101 Posted October 13, 2004 6. Three or four people CONTINUALLY show their arrogance and ignorance towards new people and/or people not as internet savvy as themselves. Kepone' date=' you're one for sure. And i've called you on it before. Enjoy your little site when NO ONE wants to be a new member......... Other sites give prizes for posters and new members...You just belittle and beleauger them. [/quote'] What does it tell you about a site that has to bribe members with shiny trinkets to keep them coming back? I want to post on message boards where the conversations are interesting, and not the ones where a desperate moderator parks his prize van outside my house in the hopes of keeping me around. This is an internet forum, not the friggin' Publisher's Clearing House. JR
Brad2600 #102 Posted October 13, 2004 And you think you're justified to pull out all the stops because of something that happened in the past? So be it then. It applied to your answer in the thread at hand. Well then I will re-think my attitude towards others then. I can't guarantee anything but it's worth looking at. In the meantime, I apologize for anything rude I said in the past to you. I don't know it will mean anything, but I do owe you an apology regardless. CPUWIZ #105 Posted October 13, 2004 Spiel has a double meaning. The literal translation of the German word is best left to someone like CPU, but one of the English meanings is to talk at length in an attempt to persuade. Spiel means both game and play in German, it depends on how you use it. E.G. Echt Klasse Spiel. = Really good game. Mit sku_u spiel Ich nicht. = I don't play with sku_u. @Breakpack, Mock and SS: Zip it! (Just in case) Now what is this thread all about? People teasing newbies? Maybe you guys need to think about that sort of comment before making it, I'd say 20% of "newbies" are people hiding behind other names or banned members that returned with a different handle. Black Atarian anyone? You guys have no idea how much time Albert and myself spend on what you call "newbies".

It is sad about that 20%, or even if it's 40. But, it shouldn't jade or add disdain towards the ones who are honest.

But, it shouldn't jade or add disdain towards the ones who are honest. But we need to scare off the other 80% to keep out of hobby, otherwise the costs of my Atari tapes might rise. I agree, maybe some are hard on them at times, or maybe some are just over sensitive at same time, and think(in their opinion) that others are too hard. FAQs can't be a bad thing. And I think this thread is a good thing. Maybe some of us will practice these good behavoirs now after being called out on it. If one changes... I see the DP mods locking like every 5th topic & linking to older threads whenever a similar thread pops up. Maybe another idea, although at same time I wonder about that, as some of the old thread I'm finding linked over there were going in different direction than what the new thread was asking of. So it's kind of the same but not. I say let the 2-3 year old threads die & start fresh. But agree some threads probably don't need to be posted to begin with if maybe people would take time to read a FAQ, numbers might drop.

I believe that not all newbies are treated equally for a reason, some of the guys/girls/things coming in here are just plain out of line, especially for being a newbie. They get what they asked for. Want some recent examples? I help almost everyone, all the time, regardless of wether or not they are new here.

In some cases it only takes me a few unique words to find stuff, other times it's usernames.

+Random Terrain #115 Posted October 13, 2004 When I used to help people at Homestead, I had a Notepad file full of my best replies so that I could just copy and paste answers. Saved a lot of time. I hope in this new FAQ, you'll also have posting tips. Here's one I made for Homestead forum users, but most of it won't apply at AtariAge: http://www.randomterrain.com/webdesign/forum.html

AtariDude #117 Posted October 13, 2004 You mean Atariage has a search function? How come no one ever tells me these things? Actually I am usually guilty of forgetting to use the search function so I can understand why a nOOb would forget or not even notice that it exists. candiru #125 Posted October 13, 2004 Sometimes I kind of like the newbie questions. I can usually answer those and then it makes me feel important, like a big man! Actually though, the repeats don't bother me but I think a little more emphasis on the FAQs and search features could be quite useful to people new to the site.
