What is your favorite eye candy in a 2600 game?

What is your favorite eye candy in a 2600 game?

For instance, as a kid, I was blown away... and I mean totally blown away... when I got past a level in He-Man Masters of the Universe and there was that giant picture of He-Man with the theme music playing.

I never thought my Atari 2600 had that much power.

Also, the opening screen on Airlock I always thought kicked arse.

(And I always thought this game was better than people say. I always get nervous as the clock ticks down and the water gets closer.)

Anyway, anyone else have any favorite eye candy in a 2600 game?

Shoot me for liking ET, but I thought ET getting taken by the ship was cool. Also, I liked the Raiders of the Lost Ark rising of the pedastal. :)

Just thought of another one.

In the game Frankenstein's Monster, when the monster is stomping towards you when you die. That was pretty good.

Yea, I agree with what's already been said. Especially ET and He-Man. I'm still impressed with the swordquest sword. Also loved the fireworks at the end of escape from the mind master. The music at the end of Dragon Stomper (& the whole end scene with the nicely drawn dragon, too,) really impressed me at the time. I also love the warp and explosion effects in Solaris, especially how they get some cool effects on them and never always sound the same twice.

I always loved the title screens on the Swordquest games. Of course, those were the best parts of the games whether you liked them or not.

I was also blown away by Tunnel Runner -- that was a game that amazed me with its programming genius.

I was purely amazed at how many screens Pitfall had. Especially compared to the other games that were out when it was released.

I'm amazed at all the use of the word 'amaze'!

Seriously tho, I freaked the first time I saw the explosion on Yars revenge......Also for some strange reason, the rippling water on the surface in Fishing Derby. So realistic at the time!

The opener/intro for Ms. Pac Man it had the best feel of an arcade game.

With Ms. Pac-Man it was like "OMG they got it right this time...finally" It totally blew me away after the turd that was Atari Pac-Man.

The ET screen blew me away also.

As a kid i was really amazed by the title screen on california games and really the game as a whole. When i first saw how great the skateboarding part looked on it i was shocked. Also in recent years i was amazed at how good road runner and bmx air master looked.

I was amazed at the first Activision game to have the little white text logo WITH the rainbow attached on the front. I was all "How'd they do that?" back then.

I was impressed by at least a handful of games including the arcade-like graphics of Demon Attack, but my overall favorite was E.T.

The already mentioned Raiders of the Lost Ark was

I was also impressed by Laser Gates, Subterrenea, and Moonsweeper. There are probably others, but that's all I can remember right now.

Speaking of E.T., I started up my emulator to play it just a little while ago, and although I had trouble finding the Call Ship Zone (it was in the bottom left corner of Washington, D.C.), I got E.T. home in around 5 minutes. It never stops being fun after all these years.

Oops, I forgot I wasn't done with my post:

The already mentioned Raiders of the Lost Ark was impressive in some places. I remember liking the looks of various things in the game.

Pretty much all of Return of the Jedi Death Star Battle:

I thought the gradual color changes on the energy shield were cool.

I was amazed by the sound effects.

I loved the lightspeed sequence, and was proud when I discovered you could make R2D2 beep by moving the joystick during this. That was my first easter egg.

The buildup to the explosion and the explosion itself.

And actually I even was impressed to watch the death star finish getting built. I did that many times, from both distances. The whole game was an amazing tech demo for me at the time.

Since someone already mentioned the Yar's Revenge explosion, I'll go with the lasers in Laser Blast. They always seemed extra cool to me.
