How long shoud I wait b4 reporting a problem to ebay/paypal?

Recommended Posts

I won a bid a little over a week ago:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...8137671133&rd=1

I paid immediatly with PayPal. Since then I have e-mailed the seller 3 times (twice using eBay and once directly through e-mail). I have not heard from this person as of yet. I am getting a little uncomfortable, as I've paid him a good amount of money. I believe I should at least get a 'I got your payment, and I'm sending it out soon' reply e-mail or something. This is just good business practice. He has fairly good feedback, so I didn't feel that I had too much to worry about :ponder:

Should I wait another week, two weeks, etc. before I actually file a complaint?

It looks like PayPal allows up to 30 days to file. Again, at least if he tells me *something* I would feel better, but at this point I have received no notification of anything.

What do you guys think?

P.S. - This would really suck if this comes to some sort of 'battle' because I've always made sure my feedback is spotless, and you know if something starts he will give a retaliatory negative comment. :(

Thanks everyone.

I would wait 29 days. Some sellers are bad at communicating back. If you haven't gotten anything by then, file Paypal. You should also monitor the guy's auctions in the interim. If you start seeing a maelstrom of negatives, file a Paypal report immediately.

Looking at the guy's FB, I don't think you'll have any problems with the order. It might take a little longer than usual to receive because of the size of the package.

I wouldnt give them very long, as soon as you file the complaint the seller may decide to come good anyway, so I'd say 2 weeks tops.

I made the mistake of leaving it too late with that bitch in corvallis, and ended up losing $110, ebay havent even done anything about her, even though her contact details are blatantly false... :x

Dont leave it as long as I did.. :|

Thanks UK WOMBLE also for the advice. I'm sorry you got burned :(

I see what happens within this next week. I've noticed that a few other transactions of his have ended after mine, and they have already received their items. Although I understand that shipping could take a little time, it's more of the fact that I've heard NOTHING from this seller. How long does it take to send a sigle e-mail?

Thanks guys.

Request their contact info. It's sort of a polite way of getting their attention -- if they think you're getting steamed and getting ready to give them a phone call, they'll be more likely to kick themselves into gear.

If that doesn't pan out, give them a call in a week. If the number is bogus or outdated, file through PayPal. Whatever you do, don't wait 'til your 30 days are up ... file at least a few days before, give yourself some breathing room.

Indeed, you should get some sort of confirmation or something, but at this point they could be away on vacation or a family emergency, so right now I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. I've bought from a few sellers who kept completely stum throughout the entire transaction, yet the items did arrive, so you never can tell. It's usually worst with power sellers who sell so much and apparently never have the time to respond to everyone, but you'll always run afoul of lazy ones, too.

As an aside -- y'think this guy could have taken smaller pics? :-)

NEVER wait more than about 2 weeks when you've gotten no response via email. Granted, there are a few sellers that dont send a courtesy "I got your payment, thanks the items will be mailed out...blahblahblah" (tho that's pretty rare) if you're emailing them and getting no reply I'd say wait one week from your first email. If nothing by then send an email threatening to file a complaint. If nothing after say 2-3 more days then file away. I know its tempting to try and save your own feedback rating, but other potential buyers need to know about sloths like this. There's NO reason not to send a frigging email reply unless they're up to something imo.

Are you using AOL, Yahoo or Hotmail for your email? If so, it could be that you are not receiving his messages or they are sitting in your bulk folder...

That is going to be a large package, so it undoubtedly will take longer, my guess is that if it went out on Monday the 11th you should see it in a few days. I wouldn't be worrying at this point given the sellers feedback and a member since '99.

Thanks Everyone:

I'll see what happens this week. Hopefully I'll hear from this person.

@Lost Monkey: I am not using any of those; I have Optimum On-Line with Outlook as my mail client. Thanks for the input, though! :)

I send everything with delivery confirmation. That way I can give the customer the tracking number and then they can see how long a delivery takes and where the package currently is. It also covers me when I say it's out of my hands. People who don't use a tracking method are just asking for trouble.

I'd wait about 21 days. That's a full 3 weeks, no excuses. If they send something media mail or parcel post, it can take up to 6 weeks like was just mentioned. Even priority mail is not guaranteed. I've seen a package take 11 business days and the p.o. just tells me that priority mail does not have a guarantee on any days, though they say it averages 3 business days.

Son of a *&%$#$*

:x :x :x

I received the package today (regular parcel post). Torn box, and only 35 Carts in it! (Along with the joysticks, paddles, and console). There were supposed to be 148 carts!

I'm guessing he's going to say that it happened in the mail.

DO NOT buy anything from this seller! ... I'm figuring out what my next move should be.

ALSO:

There is NO WAY that 148 carts could have fit in the box that he sent... I noticed it was a bit small, and everything was thrown in, with some paper on top. (Also, there were supposed to be two consoles in it).

I am so mad right now :x :x :x

I will be sending an e-mail out when I get home from work, and see if he answers this one. If not, I am going to try and contact PayPal and eBay.

I would wait another day or so, he may have shipped it in two boxes. ;)

I was just thinking that, too... Thanks again CPUWIZ...

It's funny... Wherever your mindset is coming from determines how you handle a situation... In other words, had I heard from this seller saying something like 'I got your payment, and I will send it out as soon as I can', my first thought (after getting this package) would probably have been that it was sent in two boxes. But being that I was afraid of having issues with this seller because I did not hear from him, my first thought was that he scammed me. :ponder:

I finally got an answer from him... I sent an e-mail last night practically begging him to answer it:

sorry, YES it was sent in two boxes. Im sure you will get the other one today. Let me know ok

So what was so hard about that? A simple one line e-mail to put someone's mind at ease. :(

Thanks for backing me up, everybody.
