Polaroid selling Famiclones?

Recommended Posts

Saw this one at Target recently. The interesting feature is the "Portable game controller system comes with 30 thrilling video games for home or on the road". Looks just like your standard Dreamcast gamepad FamiClone.

Alas, it's impossible to find out what games are on it without paying money...

What would have been nice, they should have built the Famiclone technology onto the thing's motherboard, and have it load ROMs off of a CD. They could ship it with a few licensed ROMs, but give instructions on how to burn your own CD-R of ROMs. What people choose to do with their portable DVD players/game machines is their own business. If they choose to download games that they can't find otherwise, and play them on their technology, it's the consumer who's guilty of piracy, not Polaroid.

Did you see Nintendo games on it in Target?

Nope. It was in a package, not set up as a demo. :(

Yes. That would've been VERY nice.

I saw those the other day. The controller is basically an IR wireless remote. Has anyone seen one running or know what games are on them?

Through the service number in the PDF manual . . .

The lady on the other end was trying to find out for me, but in the end it turns out that Polaroid/Petters doesn't tell its service department these things. . ..

I would assume if it were just original content and not something of a piratical nature, they would know the titles . . .

I'm suspecting that it's one of those DVD players w/ a Genesis/MD emu built in . . . Are there similar products that play NES, SMS, or SNES?

'S not built in to the DVD player. The package says the game controller can be hooked to any TV.

Yeah I saw this sucker in sam's club and was wondering to myself, what the hell.

It does not really specify what it plays.

This thread has gotten me somewhat curious about this item. Has anyone actually played one? I don't see a price on the page the OP linked, what's the MSRP on this?

Yow! For $250 you'd think they could at least list the games and put a couple of screenshots on the box. I'm guessing that the games are just an afterthought add-on like the craptacular breakout & tetris clones that came preinstalled on my cell phone.

Exactly.

"Hey, Ed... this DVD player's kind of neat, but you know what would make it REALLY cool? I saw this thing at the mall earlier. 25 bucks and it plays a bunch of NES games!"

"Cool! Let's buy a bunch and pack 'em in with it!"
