Atari's involvement with Sega Saturn

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this is the correct forum to post in, so if a mod wants to move it to a more relevant forum, feel free.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what involvement Atari had with the Sega Saturn? I guess they ported some of their games to it, e.g. Area 51, Atari's Greatest Hits, but who actually did the porting?

Are there any ex-Atari employees around here who may remember anything about the Saturn dev hardware they had?

Any information anyone could give me would be most useful :)

The disks in Question were made by Williams, owner of Atari Games, which was Atari's arcade division after the company was split into home and arcade divisions(with Tramiel getting the home division and Williams Bally Midway getting the arcades).

Most interesting!

My reason for enquiry is that I know that my dev Saturn came from Atari. The guy I bought it from told me so, and at the time he seemed to have a lot more atari items (I believe he had a website), so it did seem that he had a job lot of stuff. Obviously he had no interest in this, not being directly Atari related. That being said, I think he's sold more atari proto stuff since.

There was an unprinted CD still in the drive. It appears to be Area 51.

I would love to hear from anyone who may have used the machine in the past! Unfortunately the ICE unit that was obviously used with it is missing. I do have one, but it doesn't have the correct cables.

I don't know of Atari proper actually making any games for the Saturn. They were all gung ho fo rhte Jaguar at the time.

Atari Games maybe, but I'd think Midway would've had the dev units, as Atari Games wasn't legally allowed to make home games, as I understand it.
