Dragster times

I've just got really into Dragster tonight.

After a fair bit of practice I've got my time down to 5.71 (which would earn me a badge and, I was amazed to see, beat Activisions house score in the manual).

 

Just wondering, what kind of times are you guys pulling down nowadays?

(Certainly better than mine - I'm not known for being good at games )

If you can tape that time, you'd be the 2nd fastest in the world according to Twin Galaxies. (current first place is 5.51 seconds by Todd "Mr. Activision" Rogers and second place is shared by 4 people at 5.81 seconds)

but i have NEVER broke the 6 min. mark!

I didnt realize so many people played Dragster....My friend got that game when it first came out...And from day one I always thought it was a ...DRAG.

The Atari doesn't have any time keeping circuitry of its own, it uses the TV signal, which is very precise.

really? cool - that means I am awesome. i'm going to make a kind of 'king of dragster' crown for myself out of milk cartons, and parade up and down the high street in that and my underwear.

ahem. played it again tonight, best I could manage was 5.74 I can't be losing my powers, not now!!!!

Best I could do was something like 6.24, and that was only once.

trick is to hold the stick left and redline in 1st on the countdown, then redline all the way, tapping left to wheelie into 3/4 redline when you're up in 4th. Either you're engine explodes or you get a great time

In one of my tournaments back in the old days (this SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY...) I ran 6 straight runs at 6.01 secs. I have never, ever beaten the 6.00 second mark. Today in my 4th attempt, I got back down to 6.03, that's my current best.

To tell the truth, I intially thought the game was kinda boring, but now that I've figured out to play it, I actually like it. It's the kind of game you can sit down on a Saturday and play all day. But back to the topic, my scores have NEVER been nearly as good as anyone's here.

Same here. Every time I played this game, I blew my engine after one second of playing. But when I figured out the controls, I couldn't put it down. I became addicted.
