I got this simple game of Monkeys and Savages, Pigs and aint for a buck at the convention. Its moderately fun and plenty challenging, but I have to ask. What is an "Amidar?"

Well to quote Klov.com on the arcade game:

http://www.klov.com/A/Amidar.html

On even-numbered levels, your character is a gorilla; on odd-numbered levels, it is a paint roller and the Amidars are savages and pigs, respectively. But who knows if that's even right.

By the way, may I add that Amidar is one of the worst arcade to home translations in the 2600 library

Pu-Leeze... The top honor goes to Pac-Man. Have you played Congo Bongo, Zaxxon, Mr Do? I mean all arcade translation on the Atari were a give and give situation. But Amidar aint all that bad... Its just a little slow is all. But the arcade game wasn't zipping fast either (Like pepper II) All the elements of the game were there tho. The graphics are a little soft, But jeeze look at Burger Time, Popeye, Crystal Castles, Hell any Arcade translation is hampered by the 2600's power. But to say Amidar is one of the worst translations??? Come On. Next you'll tell me E.T. sux!!!!

Partial Amidar Explaination:

I once saw a japanese anime with a guy who had to make choices. He used to draw parallel vertical lines connected with smaller horizontal ones, resulting in a board like the one in the game Amidar. Then, he'd put the name of the choices on one end of the vertical lines, and threw a dice to pick a line. He'd start following a path exactly like the one in the bonus stage of Amidar, where the pig has to get to the bonus item, and make his choices depending on the result.

This process was called "Amida".

greets,

Rasty.-

p.s. the anime was about a guy who had to choose between different girls and was quite fun too

On the arcade machine, there's a screen which lists all the different characters. The pigs and savages are called Amidar (the ones that only patrol the outside border are called Tracers). Tell me this game wasn't some drug-induced nightmare.

Can the 2600 version run any slower? Gawd, what a terrible translation...

So the lexical definition of "Amidar" is:

A pig or savage human who moves about a series of lines always taking the next available turn in pursuit of a monkey and/or a paintroller. Side note: Amidars may be occasionally turned into chickens, which may then be eaten (yes, even by the paintroller).
